Title: silly question...
Post by: stocky on May 14, 2009, 09:38:49 PM
do mazda still sell the vacum houses from the uim and the vacum box?
or is it possible to just replace with a different silcon house?- if so would you just use the hose on its own or have to get them boxy things with arrows (no idea what the technical name for them is) on???
i was removing the uim and i know i broke one by accident but also came across a couple that were fooked so hopefully when there replaced will solve my high idle prob when i eventually get iy back on the road again

yes you can just replace them with 4mm silicone hose. i did mine last month. either attach them with a small bit of adhesive or a small 4 inch cable tie, with regards to "them boxy things" they are one way valves and if broken will need replacing. you can get them from mazda, i had the part number somewhere, ill see if i can find it. if youve got the car that far apart then it might be worth replacing the rest of the vacuum hoses, theres a great write-up on robrobinette.com. it goes into lots of detail and is very useful.

if your feeling brave!! i replaced 54 of mine, which was all apart from the four that are inaccessable without removing the solenoid rack. i couldnt get to the four srews at the back or the solenoid rack to remove it. you have to take it steady with them as they are made of cheese!! also, be careful when changing some of the 6mm lines at the front of the turbo\'s im not sure of thier technical names as they contain restrictor pills and if you replace them with normal silicone hose you wont acieve stock boost!! but apart from them four, it made a huge difference and cured all of my boost issues! shame it didnt prolong the life of the water seals!!
cheers, james
