Title: Antifreeze
Post by: ACCR on May 08, 2009, 10:02:01 AM
Hello,

I dont know if this thread has already been posted... I couldn`t find it, so I am going to ask you guys. :o

I am going to change my cooling fluid, but now I am in dilemma, which antifreeze to use? With silicate (blue stuff) or silicate free (orange stuff)? I dont want that antifreeze eats my seals. I heared some rumours that orange stuff isn`t so good.

What do you guys use and what is your experiance?

Thanks!

I bought two pots of the red/orange stuff and was advised to buy another two bottles of the blue stuff and save the red for my work chariot (clio scrapper).

I believe blue is the stuff most people use,

I used to use green in my itr, not sure whether this is the same as blue or not???

2ltr of blue coolant and 5ltrs of deionised water.....mix it and keep some to top up later.  it should take about 4ltrs to fill up or may be more.

Nothing but Bluecol since 1964. last 25 years on Rotaries. It\'s done me proud over all that time. No engine of mine\'s ever missed a beat due to antifreeze problems and never changed a water pump in all that time. Change every 2 to 2 and half years.
On my very 1st car in 1962, together with my 1 or 2 car owning mates, used to drain the water every winter night and fill up again next day!! Then antifreeze became popular. I wonder why?

Thanks for replies! As I assume most of guys uses coolant liquid with silicate. But my guess is what if silicate free would be better, because they cool better, but I am not sure about the gaskets, if they would be OK? I was hoping that someone could tell something more about that.

But anyway I dont want to make sicence with this, so I will go with blue/green stuff, as you guys. If it works with you then it should also with me.

Thanks!

You want to be using a ethylene glycol based product they tend to be either blue or green. The pink antifreeze you get tends to be a cheaper product and can go ecidic after a couple of years in the engine the last thing you want on a rotary with its mixture of metals in the water jacket.

as I know both blue and orange are ethylene glycol based... but one with silicate and other without silicate....

As I made my mind.... I will use blue stuff.
