I Jaked my car up the other day and noticed that the spring could move up and down freely.Im wondering if the knocking im getting could be from this. Sorry if this is a stupid question but im a novice :yes
depending on how low you have set your car then this can be normal, mine does it once you take all the weight of the coilover. If you can take the coilover off and see if it actually works but I would look in other areas first. The knocking may be caused quite commonly by the anti roll bar bushes and as they are only a few quid each, always the first place to start with.
What car have you got bud and where is the knocking coming from (front/back near/off side?)
Ive got a Fd and its knocking from the rear near side. Its not so bad on a flat road but on a bumpy road its really bad. I no ive got a warn wheel bearing but i dont think this would knock.
i\'m betting it\'s one of the rear bushes, i\'ll dig out a thread giving you more info bud.
found this instead bud: http://www.maxcooper.com/rx7/how-to/suspension/pillow_balls/index.html
Thanks that would be helpfull.
Cheers
What coilovers are they? If they are Super street, then the ride height is set by the proload collars, so if you are running them low you would get this.
If they are something like Flex, they are set up wrong, and you need to set the preload correctly.
Sorry to sound stupid sih but how can check what thay are as thay came on the car
Thanks

Thanks mate that guide is going to be so usefull.
Only thing i did differently was to drill the old bearings out as I didn\'t have a press. It\'s a right pain but can be done with patience (music helped) and effort (a big hammer helped more than the music here)
cheers buddy :cheers
When you look at them are there 2 idfferent sets of collars (one set at the bottom of the spring, one set at the bottom of the shock) or just a set at the bottom of the spring?
Or just pop up a photo if you can :)

Its the one"s with just a set at the bottom. I took the wheel off last night and had a good look round and there was no movement in any of the bushes and arms. The only thing that was makeing a knocking sound was the wheel going side to side. So this has got to be the wheel bearing make all this noise. What do you think ?????
