Well this was in the car when I got it and was not too sure if it was working or not but never really took much notice of it. Pretty certain it was.
Anyway after it being ripped out and then reinstalled after cars renovation I could never get it to work again. get power to it but needle does not move much if at all. Convinced its an earth problem but can not find anything on net for instruction in the wiring. The O2 sensor is a Ford item and 4 wire so i can only assume they are for heater, earth and ECU.
The gauge is a really nice one and would like to keep it but I do need this working to tune my engine correctly or buy a new setup.
Just need some help on how to check this out and a diagram would be great if anyone knows how to wire the whole thing ie amp, gauge and sensor as I am led to believe that the earths are quite specific which is I think my problem.
Pete,
What colour are the wires on the O2 sensor ? A lot of 4 wire sensors have 2 white, one black and one grey wire. The white wires are the heater - and would be fed from a 12v supply from the controller if you have one, failing that they need to get a 12v supply wired to ignition. The black and grey wires are the 02 sensor, I think the grey wire is the signal wire and black the return (ground) but don\'t take my word for that. In free air the signal wire will tend towards 0v and towards 1V when rich. The earth wire should be connected to the sensor body - so should be easy to identify with an ohm meter.
yep 2 white, and black and grey one. It does have the controller/amp. I will continue to persevere with it all as I am sure once i strip the wires right back I am sure I will see the problem. There are a few earths coming from the amp so need to make sure its all connected correctly as i do think this is the problem.
Well having had another look it may well seem that the Ford O2 sensors do ship with the Tomei setup, however I do not think they are a true wideband sensor judging by a few comments made on various forums I have been searching. Think this setup is only really for a rough idea on whats going on and not one I will use for tuning.....at this stage until i can get some more info.
