Title: those xs power coolers everyone buys
Post by: turbotoaster on April 30, 2009, 07:10:18 PM
just wondering what the deal is this them, seems loads of people buy them and then they are for sale second hand constantly, is it people are drawn to the cheap price, buy it and its worse than stock or are they just reaching a point in there tune where its just not good enough anymore.

Your advice would be useful as im tuning on a budget and for a standard twin turbo car i was wondering what people have seen in gains of hp/intake temps

Thanks

People whack them on and as they don\'t come with ducting, and people don\'t bother to sort any, they perform barely any better with stock, as the air just flows around the,
Duct them properly, and they\'re pretty good.
363 and counting on one V-mounted with stock twins ;)

Mine\'s properly sealed and ducted, over 374bhp, intake temps rarely go over 40.

Have seen 60 in standing traffic but it drops as soon as it\'s on the move again.

well that seems reasonable, does anyone have any pics of the ducting and how you do it

since this is similar price

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mazda-RX7-Full-Intercooler-Kit-Brand-New_W0QQitemZ380117917093QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item380117917093&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1689|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50

obviously since its front mount it will have alot more air getting to it but then it will block the air to the rad, so im guessing you will get increase in water temps.

If you had a choice of both kits would you choose the xs power as im guessing for power/drag the front mount is best but for general life its best to go original mount

P.s i Know v-mount are best but havent got that sort of money

yes it is laid quite flat, but at an angle to scoop in the cold air, i have a koyo rad also, its a bit like a reverse v mount but it works ok.

hi guys, picking up on the xs power theme, i have seen one on the bay and was wondering if it would clear an apexi induction kit? seems a bit too wide to me?
and also, it looks like the new cross-over pipe would be in the way.

Mounted as shown in the pics, wont be any better than stock intercooler if not worse, in standing traffic i was seeing over 77% and climbing.

I\'ve got some 1/2 made ducting, just got ali sheets from B&Q. Pair of tin snips, some cardboard and a pencil and you\'re good to go

thats brilliant mate, i liked the look of the kit but was concerned about its fitting, you found any problems fitting it or did everything just bolt up, anything need modifying?
Title: those xs power coolers everyone buys
Post by: turbotoaster on May 02, 2009, 11:42:29 AM
also did that ebay kit come with fitting instructions?
Title: those xs power coolers everyone buys
Post by: RXphil on May 02, 2009, 01:16:55 PM
The most dificult bit is youll have to cut out a piece of metal which separates the drivers headlamp from the engine bay to make way for a pipe

Kit went together no worries but the instructions were a fair bit confusing!! found it easier to throw them away and work it out yourself.

I would recamend buying 2 90 degree and 2 45 degree hoses @38mm dia for the radiator to save chopping the old ones up as they dont fit to well after :mmmm

could you run the intercooler with the radiator in the factory position, i understand there is limited airflow i just meant short term.

and did the kit come with the nuts and bolts for the brackets and to bolt the intercooler to the car?

thanks again

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/RX7-Compilation_209321.htm

just been watching this and seems to give good results for the xs power cooler, the guy doesnt run any ducting and still runs low 12s, his terminals speed shows he has good power aswell

his mods are  Greddy intakes, full 3" exhaust w/ DP and MP, XS Power SMIC, Greddy pulley kit, airpump delete, BOV, 850/1600, and PFC
