Title: A couple of problems with my RX-7 :(
Post by: wiggman2030 on April 29, 2009, 08:48:03 PM
Hello all,

I recently bought a 3rd generation 1992 rx7, it\'s completely stock and to my knowledge has not had any mods performed in the past.  I also believe that the car has recently had a rebuild. Basically i\'m having the following problems:

1) When I accelerate everything seems fine, up to about 4,500rpm.  I check the boost gauge and as I accelerate it reaches 10psi, then once I hit around 4,500rpm the car slows down and I lose boost like the second turbo isn\'t kicking in.

2) On a cold start the car gives out white smoke from the exhaust for around 20 seconds, during this time the car seems to shake/vibrate.  Once the car is warm the vibrating stops and the smoke disappears.

I also thought that I\'d mention my vacuum is around 17-18 on the boost gauge once idling when the engine is warm. Also I am a bit of a noob when it comes to rotary but very willing to learn so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

First thing to do is check the plugs, as this will give you a poor start & lumpy idle as it might be running on one rotor for a few seconds till the second lot clear themselves! as for the boost, this is a common problem, but could be caused by many dfferent things!!!

I had a similar issue & it turned out to be the boost controle soonoid on the front of the UIM, but it could also be a split hose in the rats nest, duff solonoid in the rats nest, broken one way valve, faulty actuators on the second turbo, boost controle actuator on the Y pipe, or even a nackerd turbo!!
