Title: ZERO fuel pressure
Post by: gonzoninja on April 26, 2009, 09:49:07 PM
Finally finished my single turbo conversion.

But I\'m not getting any fuel pressure reading on the gauge of the new aeromotive FPR.

I have only put in a gallon of super unleaded, is the pump having trouble picking up this level of fuel (it is a stock one so I would have thought it was okay)

Any way short of undoing the fuel fittings to see if there is a problem, can anyone give me any hints?

I can\'t hear the fuel pump going at ignition staage 2 but then I never have been able to, so I think its pumping.

It could well be a duff gauge as it was only cheap

You should be able to hear the pump prime if you pop the boot and stick your head by the top of the tank, even on a standard car

Have you jumped the connectors in the diagnosis port to get it to pressurise the system?

Don\'t want to be insulting, but are you sure that you have connected the return and feed the right way round?

I haven\'t jumped the connectors, I\'ll try that.

Pretty sure the Aeromotive FPR is connected properly (Side port for feed, bottom port for return).

Cheers

How do you prime a new pump ???

Also have you tried adjusting the FPR ? Not sure how low they go.

Mine goes down to about 30PSI.
Sounds like you\'ve got it the right way - double check which feed line is where on the firewall though.

tbh if you\'ve got them the right way round there\'s not much else that can go wrong with the FPR, so i\'d be looking at the pump and the relay that supplied it. Thee\'s a bit in the manual about which two pins to jump to get it to prime.

Mate,

Assume you\'re running standard engine management?

If not (eg MOTEC) if there is a problem getting a sensor read and the right parameters, the management system won\'t engage the pump..

Ah, I\'ve got an Apexi ECU, that could be it.

In a similar vein, in order to get the oil and water round the system, I know I should take the EGI fuse out, but how many times or how long should I crank it over to make sure everything won\'t die when I start it properly.

I\'d check the crank trigger wheel and sensor set up is at least hooked up. If you\'ve got the software then it\'ll tell you what the diagnostics look like when you hook it up. I know not a bit about Apexi I\'m afraid but plenty of people here do I think.

In terms of oil, you\'re just making sure the pump is primed and you have oil pressure. Again not sure on your guages and whether they will read without the engine running. I\'ve had to run an engine before it would get pressure, but that was only once or twice, and if it hadn\'t lifted the needle it would have been going straight back off.

Okay, did the Jumper thing on the diagnosis port and it worked like a charm. Nice steady fuel pressure. Couldn\'t see, hear or smell any leaks either. Awesome.

Thanks everyone for your help

Now I\'ve only got to cross my fingers and start the thing.
