As i\'m the kind of person that cannot leave anything alone, i though i would see if i can tidy up the busy looking rear end. First thing was to see what the lights would like tinted. Second was to remove the badges then decide if they should go back painted gloss black or if i should leave them off completely. Personally i think it looks great debadged or poss with just the mazda or RX8 badge in the middle put cant really afford to have the panel filled and painted just yet.
Also has anyone tried fitting the lights from the new RX8? They look like a cool design and look physically the same shape.
As always, opinions welcome either good or bad!

ours is debadged totally.
Yes the new 09 lights do fit but there is a lot of extra wiring to be done to them to make them work on 03+ cars
price is £293 each lol
Something else to bare in mind,is that the R3 Rear Light Clusters do`nt have built in reflectors like our Rear Lights,as on the R3 they are placed in the lower part of the rear bumper!!
Nice looking RX8 you have there:wiggle
nice looking 8, looks great debadged kind of looks like an angry transformer lol
I\'d vote debadge think it\'d look great :yes, I might do it to mine, oh I already have when they fitted the MazdaSpeed spoiler :Laugh , not sure on the tints just doesn\'t look right for some reason.
Let us know if you fit the R3 lights as it\'s something a few peps have been talking about over on the RX8OC forum and it\'s something I\'ve thought about but just not sure how easy it\'d be.
Thanks for the comments guys!
Regarding the tinted lights, they aren\'t actualy tinted yet, i slipped some black tights over the lenses to give me an idea of what it would look like ;). If i keep the standard 8 lights i think a light smoke would look alot better.
Thanks for the heads up on the reflector issue Nigel, is something i will definately have to consider.
Been quite busy this week, decided to lower my number plate today, think it looks rather cool, more like how the front end should have looked.

tbh you can get away without the reflectors in you fit the new R3 lights. Only a very very clued up police officer or MOT station will realise.
Ordering ours this week from Japan
Cool! Go for it. Where is the fog light on the R3 model?
The Series II RX-8 (R3)Tail Lamps will not fit as Mazda have done some Mods.
1. The lights have been slightly lowered, so the Boot/Trunk lid will not hit the top of the lamp..was an issue with some S1 cars apparently.
2. The rear bumper also has a 5mm recess in it to accommodate the LED Lights where yours is straight across.
So, it may be possible to fit them after a lot of cutting and respraying.
right ok, sorry mate but had it from Mazda itself that they will.
if there is a little work involved then probably something i wont bother with until i put a little skirt kit on it. My bumper needs doing anyway thanks to a post that jumped out on me last year lol.
Here is the back of my car before I took delivery,
It does not show it very well..
On the left of the light see the bottom edge, it actually is rebated into the bumper by 4-5 mil. There is a lip between the two lights that is part of the bumper. See the gap on top of the lights is also larger that the Series I.
But, hey give it a go, I would like to know for sure, it is that rebate in the bumper that concerns me.

As the bumper is different and the shape of the bootlid slightly more curved its very hard to say if these are shaped around a light cluster that is physically the same size and shape or not, so without someone giving it a go we will never know!
will let you know hopefully next week
The Boot lid has not changed, part #\'s FEY5-52-61XA, same for late 06 and 09 RX-8 or Series I and II., neither has the rear panel that houses the tail lights changed.
It is the Bumper cover that has Changed.
As I said there is a lip between the tail lights and the lens is recesses into the bumper.
Mazda did a production change on Series One (to stop boot lid hitting lens),
so a lot depends on what model RX-8 you have.
I just found theses pics of a Mazdaspeed RX-8 running in the Rolex Series in the USA. I had it confirmed that the #70 car is not the latest model, so hopefully they will fit without too much hassle.

Now that looks nice
yeah but isnt that a carbon body GT car that looks like an RX8, but in fact has a 3 rotor engine in?
Has anyone fitted the LED Tail Lamps on their RX-8 yet??
Hi Ash,
Agent Orange is putting these Lights on the back of his Orange RX8 :cool
OK, there are a few guys who have attempted the fitting of Series II or R3 LED Tail Lamps...they are Not a simple Bolt on...
The Guy in the Yellow RX-8 shows the large gap under the LED..
The Grey RX-8 shows how the LED sticks out the bottom without any modifications.
The First PIC shows the area\'s that need cutting out (yellow) and realignment of the fixing holes.
So, there you go....not a simple install..and at about $1000.00 each...
