Title: gear selection fault
Post by: lee49 on April 18, 2009, 08:10:59 PM
i have a 98 fd
was driving earlier and as i went to put it into 5th gear (normal driving speed) it really didnt want to go in.
carried on and when i got to my destination i tried at standstill with the engine running and engine off and it still wasnt going into 5th.
as i was driving back home then i tried again and it went in with a VERY LIGHT crunch. worked all the way home then.(wth a very light crunch every time)
i tried again then when i got home and it wouldnt go in again.
every other gear is fine which seems a bit odd.
can ayone shed any light on this or had anything similar

as far as the car is concerned its a 98spec fd with a few engine mods, standard gearbox with a twin plate clutch,

cheers in advance for any suggestions/info:3Confused

synchro possibly gone.

I lost 5th gear in my old Mr2 turbo.. not the sychro tho.. the whole gear I think. You could hear bits and bobs rattling about inside the box!

This happens to me sometimes, well it\'s happened 3 times and i\'ve only had the car about 3 weeks.  Can\'t put a pattern on it either so would appreciate some advice? I\'ve got a 2006 RX8 PZ, no mods.

it will be the 5th gear syncro mate, If it will go into gear but crunches upon selection then 99% syncro has gone
