Title: Induction Kit / Aftermarket Air filter
Post by: Retro_Boy_G on April 16, 2009, 11:50:33 AM
Has anyone got one in their FC? It seems like a simple mod to change it from the standard.. I\'m sure mine has a K&N filter in it but it\'s the filter pads and not the actual cone shaped intake.. I think the cone looks pretty damn cool and want one in my car.. haha

any advise on one to get, where to get it.. and how to install it? :Hammer

I ran my old EGi with a K&N panel - then changed to the K&N induction kit - TBH unless you are running bigger ports etc, theres no need - the big cones drag in heat and its hard to duct any good airflow to it.  Stick with the panel type unless you need a bigger filter volume :)

You don\'t happen to have any pictures of it do you? The volume is one of the thing that interests me most.. they sound amazing when sucking away! haha.. Just gives the engine bay a bit of a better look also.. The EGi bay is quite bare I feel.

maybe run a direct cold air feed to the panel box, then a direct feed from the the panel box to the intake manifold? not sure if the panel box is seperate to the rest of the intake system though.

Don\'t think there are any pics around for it? It was about 7 years ago now...

Look for my post called "my fc" in the second gen section. It show my old set up. If mitch doesn\'t want my old filter I can send it to you for the postage costs

Im running a cone filter with the stock air feed box on the top, need to have something behind it though, else you will get bad heat soak:

Thanks for those pics Mitch! They help quite a bit! I was hoping to get rid of the old one all together though.. is yours still on to get as much air up the cone as possible?

Would you mind if i got this filter from James?

Best thing you can do is get rid of the airpipe itself and run a piece of alloy tubing. Run the two small hoses to a oil catch tank and you will see a difference, even if its to stop dirty fumey oil crap from getting in the intake. If you are getting rid of the airbox then make sure you pick a filter big enough to handle the BHP and a heat shield is highly recommended as in the pics above. The stock box is extremely good a blocking heat and just a K&N filter will be pretty good but dont expect to see massive gains because you wont.

filter should be big enough. Once you\'ve got the air filter Gianni i suggest you get a hard pipe and a few bits of silcone hose.

Do the two hoses not need to be in the intake then pete? i have no idea what they are.

I think the kit im giving you has a custom flange to fit the filter onto the end of the AFM, then you can use silicone to connect the AFM to the hard pipe. Then another bit of silicone to fit the hard pipe to the top plastic at the top of the block. The previous owner of my car made two holes in one of the silicone connectors for the two hoses i think pete was talking about

Check out the tests for all the filters then:

What is the little pipe on this picture that looks like it is also coming out of the filter?

Ahh, It\'s the feed for the engine i take it? Man.. this would need some extreme modding to work. Why are cars so complicated! :(

Good news... (i think?). It seems the dude who owned the car before me has removed the air pump i think and the little hose at the top of that picture has nothing going into it now.. So technically i should be able to just whack on the filter and on i go!

mate its really not hard :D
all you have to do is put the filter on the afm, then connect the afm to the block, using hard pipes and silicone. Then u need to make two holes in a bit of silicone for the hose\'s

EASY :D

That\'s the thing though dude..I only need to connect the main thick hose as there is nothing connected to the thin hose..

there should be another hole in the pipe next to the thick one?

There is only one pipe going into the current air filter, there is a smaller hole for another pipe but there is nothing connected to it.

oh i was talking about the hoses on the flexi pipe not the air box. Dam yours looks completly different to mine, you wont even need the flange for the afm i was talking about, no wonder i confused you :P
