Title: My rear light mod
Post by: Bobbit on April 14, 2009, 11:11:37 AM
Finally got round to buying a set of 92 rear lights and went about modding them over the weekend, what do people think:

Please excuse the upside down rotors, this was due to me trying out a few different set ups, they don\'t show when the lenses are covering them.

Have you just sprayed over the lenses then?
Should look good :D

Yep, took the lights apart, sprayed the lenses with a satin black and thats it, took about 2hr including getting the lights apart, finding a rotor image and tracing it with a sheet of plain paper on the laptop screen (shhh tho, dont tell the wife).
I\'ll get some pics of them fitted once the cars back from the garage

Cheers guys, i\'m quite chuffed TBH. First mod in a long time that was plain sailing, no probs what so ever.

Will let you know about the garage Neil, fingers crossed all will be well, then I can get her MOT\'d and back on the road, it\'s killing me driving the wife\'s civic everywhere. We drove to Scotland at the weekend and it would have been an awsome drive in the rex.

Well got the car back this morning, finishing work at 4.30 so I\'m going straight home to fit these! I can\'t wait to see what they look like, i\'ve not sealed the lights yet incase it looks pap and I decide to change them. But around 5.30 I should have some pics up. I\'m quite excited to see what they look like. Got one more light mod in mind but will have to see what these look like 1st

Afraid to say I don\'t like that, too fussy for me.

If you like it though :)

im with the above....bit too many angles and a bit fussy... i think at the bare minimum you should havent have masked the middle of each rotor shape

Good job, though, even if tastes vary on the topic...

How long did it take you to time the camera shutter with the indicators flashing on!? :rollin

Post by: Bobbit on April 20, 2009, 11:50:53 AM
Got it the 2nd time! In total i only took 5 pics, i had the trolly jack bar pressing the brakes on and hazards on. My neighbour watched me jamming the brake on and was really confused as to what i was doing.

Seems this mod is a bit marmite, i love it. Everyone seems to be doing led mods at the moment so i wanted to be a bit different as i really dont like the led look. Plus most people haven\'t a clue what the shape is a refference to so its a secret mod! lol

Some love it- some hate it, nice!!

Glad your happy with it mate and it looks like top workmanship. I agree i really dont like the whole l.e.d. light thing.

You know me Rob stock oem is my thing really.

Anyhoo Back to the important stuff!!! you back on the road yet?

Same method as you Alex, bucket of hot water, kept topping it up with the kettle. Dog burnt his tonge trying to drink from the bucket, bless him.

Hmm they do look good and i bet they would grow on you! the only thing id do to be differant if i went down the rotor route would be to make the middle one upside down :Giggle

I tried that Leon, didn\'t do it for me in the end, the middle one just looked like a shield.

Funny that, Leon - that was my first thought as well :D

Bobbit - they look good - and definitely different from the usual \'99 spec or led ones ;)

they look amazing mate really stand outany chance you could post the stencil they ou used?
Title: My rear light mod
Post by: Bobbit on April 21, 2009, 10:01:46 PM
Sorry fella, the stencil got eaten by the dog (seriously!), it was just a bit of paper and he decided to empty the bin and chew everything. But the original graphic I found by searching google images. I\'ll see if I can find the same one again.
Title: My rear light mod
Post by: Bobbit on April 21, 2009, 10:07:58 PM
found it: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.aitcs.com.au/stickers/images/Rotor.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.aitcs.com.au/stickers/index.php%3Fmain_page%3Dproduct_info%26cPath%3D83_69%26products_id%3D183&usg=__MMxCnFgB7HnZ4JJtaZAERIWSUf4=&h=394&w=400&sz=12&hl=en&start=2&tbnid=FSCRL3ZqwH0zGM:&tbnh=122&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3Drotary%2Bengine%2Brotor%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff

I resized the image so it would fit on the lense (held the lense to the computer screen, the image easily showed through) then I traced the image from the laptop screen with some paper (don\'t tell the wife) then cut the image out. i covered the lense with parcel tape, drew round the stencil with a felt tip pen, cut the shape with a hobby knife, peeled off the excess and voila. Sprayed with a satin black from Halfrauds that i found in the garage and that was it.

We done looks a good job,

If i was to be super critical... I would say the indicators are a tad oversized appreciating the angle of the body work that the lights follow.

Having seen this im feeling more inspired to what can be acheived and also now have the foresight to plan on my sizes of images.

Bottom line is i plan to use vinyl so can always peel off until the right sizes are acheived.

Thanks again Bobbit!! :god
