Title: Turbo Flange Lock-nuts
Post by: gear1275 on April 13, 2009, 06:03:02 PM
hey guys,
i have my turbo\'s off to replace them, the old cast piece between the block and the turbo\'s was held on with what looked like ny-locks?? i was just wondering if it would be okay to replace them with normal ny-locks or wether they wouldn\'t stand up to the heat? if not, what is every body else using? and also, what sealer would you recommend using between the gaskets and sealing faces to ensure a good seal. i have been told to re-use the old metal type gaskets but would like to use a sealer to make double sure of the joints to avoid later implications.
thanks

DONT use Nylocks - you can get some metal sprung type locking nuts that have a metal insert that tightens onto the bolt and won\'t melt.  Or use a good flange nut and give it some gently welly (not too much or you\'ll brake the studs).

As regards sealant - just reuse the metal gasket - it will seal fine - no need for paste or other sealant - most wouldn\'t last 5 minutes at those temps anyhoo.

:cheers
