Hi, I\'ve a UK rx7 fd with a Greddy TD07 and the motor rebuilt and ported 15000 miles ago.
2 weeks ago, when I run the car at middle rev 4000-5000rpm, there was a "Poum" and then a very loud noise rear the turbo and the car doesn\'t want to start because iddle was too instable.
But finally I succeed to start the car normally, I come back to home but the next day, the car didn\'t want to start.
So I went to a garage to repair it, the wastegate gasket was dead so we change it and the loud noise stop, we change the 4 plugs and the car start again.
Now the car start easily when cold or hot but the turbo doesn\'t function correctly. There is like a big lag, around 3500rpm when the turbo begins to run, it stops at maybe 0,3 bar, then decreases at 0,15bar then the car take some revs, blocks again at a certain pressure and after 4000rpm the car runs correctly.
Also there is a big white smoke when the car takes the pressure and there is some play in the turbo shafts.
I think turbo is dead but I just need a confirmation that it couldn\'t be another thing.
Thanks.
1st thing is do not run the engine any more!
If parts of the turbo enter into the engine then it will get stuffed too.
It does seem that the turbo has had it,get it off and take the housings off to be sure.
Regards
Carl
Thanks Carl, I\'m just waiting compression test results from Mazda to be sure that the motor is not damaged too
I thinked about my turbo problem. Before I bought the car, it had an oil leak from turbo oil return, the oil line hose was too long and so it had been shortened and fixed.
Could be something related to that ? May be there is still some bad oil return and so the turbo stalls then run correctly and produces a lot of white smoke.
If it could be that how could I check if it\'s that ?
Thanks (there is nobody in south of France that can (or want) work on my problem because there aren\'t used to tuned cars and to rotaries)
