if the rollers have fallen out of the bairing from the center of the flywheel nut, then yes I would replace it!! do a search on it as someone made a tool to remove the bairing using threaded bar and cavety fixings.

Yes it is needed and keep the gearbox shaft inline with the engine shaft, which is always a good idea lol :)

And yes Jono it was me that made that removal tool, link here http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51836

Hope it helps

i have repaired my pilot bearing..i have clipped the 5 needles back into the bearing with a screw driver! they quite firmly clicked back in and ive greased them up and the bearing now spins fine.

Always advised to replace the pilot bearing is it not?

You can get it out with alot of faffing about, a dremel, a small screw driver and a hammer. :)

A lot of vibration through the gearbox i\'d have thought, you\'d deffo notice something was wrong...

Personally for how cheap they are and the hassle of taking the box off again should it fail i always replace it if the gearbox is off for any reason.

Well if you follow the book and do it properly then yeah replace it, just letting you know that a lot of people i know dont....

And seal is on the box side not engine side
