Hi, I bought the blue one. I need some guidance on getting it back up and running. It has 29,000 miles on it and body is in great condition. Any one in S cotland running Gen 1?

Hi Bill. Out of about 170 1st Generations (all 3 Series), I\'ve only got your car and another Series 3 car in Aberdeenshire on my register of Runners in Scottish locations. The old RX7 seemed to be a much more popular car in the South. Don\'t know why \'cos you\'ll certainly have better roads for it than me in South Yorks!
The link below refers to a car in my \'Dead Pool\' and it might interest you for spares - If the lady has still got it - It was in Glasgow.
What sort of guidance do you need. Speak up and we\'ll all help.
I\'m a \'keeper on the road\' sort of guy but we\'ve very good modsters, trackers, rallyers and out-and-out racers on here.

Title: starting laid up car
Post by: billc on April 27, 2009, 06:06:36 PM
First bit of guidance is how to safely start a car sat for two years! Its only done a few thousand in the last 21 years

Drained the fuel and changed the oil. Car started - ran for 3 secs then I switched off. Good oil pressure. started again but not firing well sounds like it is misssing  - flooded it. Took out plugs cleaned them.

anything else I should be doing before starting??

just leave it to dry out with the plugs out, they dont like being run for a short time sounds like everything is ok so let it warm up, if you can\'t take it for a run:Thumbsup!

I would have said put some oil in the plug holes and crank it over first but it sounds like it\'s going to be a runner. The fuel filter will be one thing to do before very long. Check the air cleaner element. Clean out the distrib cap and WD 40 the leads up.
Aero start spray down the carb and plugs into the oven for 20 mins before fitting are tricks I\'ve had to use in the dim and distant past to get a reluctant car going. A tow start is another that always gets results.
It may just be your choke setting - I\'ve found all cars are different to each other.

I have called Mae - no answer will try later. I will let you know what happened to the car.

Yes please! I\'ve got it as unlikely to be ever road going again but you never know if the shell is good.

Title: Gen 1 Sill repair sections
Post by: billc on May 09, 2009, 11:48:17 AM
Just placed an order for an off side rear sill repair section for a Gen 1 (£31 delivered). Speaking to Stephen Brooks who makes them, the profile could be used to make rear bottom wing and front sill repairs as well. Taking some before and after pictures for anyone who is interested. Stephen is going to see how the tooling can be used to manufacture other repair panels. (Thanks david for the contact details)

Repair panel - base of sill is flat rather than slightly rounded - dont know if it is a mistake or intentional.(file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Billy/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpg)

That\'s the inside of the nearside panel yeh?
Will you let us have pics as the repair progresses Bill? I assume you have to carry out a bit of repair behind the repair panel as it were?

Will do - I will have 3 panels - Floor to cill repair panel, Cill 1/4 panel and end cill panel.
I intend to weld all three panels together before fitting to the car. Will post pics as I go along.
