Title: Leak from an Unknown Source
Post by: Skifledanabit on April 05, 2009, 12:10:27 PM
I\'m having some major leakage from my front nearside wheelarch, my brake fluid level is still full, the leak is dripping down onto the wheel causing it to spray everywhere, really messy, could it be the shock absorber?

what happens when you push down on this corner? Does the car bounce back up?

If the shock has gone it sounds like its done so pretty badly so i guess you\'d notice it

just had the wheel off, had a good look under the front end, seems its the old problem with the oil cooler, i replaced it a month or few ago, i\'m hoping i\'m just being a numpty and havent done the bolts up tight enough, will have a play around with an adjustable wrench when i get home, *note to self, put adjustable wrench in car for futute use*

ok, here\'s a quick one...

is it likely/possible that a pressurised leak from an oil cooler in the standard place to find its way onto the bottom of the nearside wishbone/shock absorber (enough to actually cause drips), work its way through the spokes of the wheel, run outdue to centrifugal force and also spray the inside of the arch, suspension etc... or do i likely have two problems? the shock seems fine, pushes down and springs back up into place as normal...

I\'ve been trying to figure it out all day, its beyond my expertise.

Probably - I had a bit of 2 stroke oil from my can leak out down the brake line - through into the wheel arch - and it was all over the inside of the wheel - it does\'nt take much.  Luckily the brakes weren\'t oiled up.

Ok, had the wheel and part of the engine bay cleaned, no more leak... funny that, also tightened up the bottom oil cooler bolt about 1/4 turn, so far, clean, hopefully will stay that way
