Title: the annoying aerial
Post by: jackaleks on April 04, 2009, 09:56:57 PM
can you get to the power aerial without taking any body panels off? i never listen to the radio and i\'m probably going to smooth the bloody thing out eventually, but for now i just want to disable it.

is there a wire/fuse you can simple pull out either at the aerial or in the cabin?

thanks,

If you take the jack out of the storage place in the boot you can reach down to the aerial plug and un plug it

I removed mine and got a gromit to fit in there until I get it resprayed :) Aerial fits others such as MX6 and Ford Probe if you want to ebay it!

Oddly, if you have certain makes of headunit, it only puts the aerial up when you put the radio on but not for CD or MP3 playback. Sony ones are like this, for example. Not much help regarding the original question, since you\'re unlikely to change head units just to disable the aerial, but it\'s an interesting factoid nonetheless :D

How easy would it be to fit something like an S2000 areial in the stock position, I think that would look pretty smart, anyone done it???

my head unit was a £20 ebay job, so i\'d be surprised if it actually played cd\'s properly, let alone made the aerial go up and down!

i saw a few threads where people talked about s2k and beesting aerial conversions. as long as you can fit it in the hole the connections shouldn\'t be too different, after all an aerial is only really a bit of metal.

personally i\'d prefer to smooth it off and wire one into the rear hatch.

If you unplug the aerial from the back of your headunit does that stop the aerial coming up? I know it used to on my old MR2. Havnt tried it on the Rex though.

i think it depends on the head unit. that didn\'t work with mine (Alpine) so i pulled the cable out of the power aerial itself as per chopper2k22\'s post.
