Post by: Brian Bell on March 30, 2009, 11:20:37 AM
Does anyone have a phone number for Rotary Art??

I ordered some springs from them a couple of weeks ago on the website and tried contacting them through the website too but I have heard nothing.

I am sure there is no problem but modern websites seem not to list contact numbers any more

Cheers All

That\'s the right number, however it seems that recently he isn\'t there that much so you\'ll have to keep trying to speak to him, otherwise you just have to messages with the lady that answers the phone.

It is all very depressing as I thought they were a good company and have always had my car serviced there! :Grrr:Grrr:Grrr

If it\'s just springs you want then loads of people over can sort you out :)

Have you tried Clive? (MazdaRotaryParts)  I reckon most of the specialists have something kicking around that will help you out :) :)

what kind of springs are you after?

Ordered a set of lowering springs. The website didnt say they werent in stock and he has taken my money. Spoke to Gary about 3 weeks ago and he indicated they were due by now and they still havent turned up! I am sure they will be lovely when they arrive but if it isnt by the end of the week and if I havent heard from him then its off to Paypal, Trading Standards, Visa and anyone else who will listen!

A cautionary tale to all members that all it not as it seems on glossy websites!

lol well 3 weeks is better then the normal 6 weeks most people wait to get parts in from Japan.

Have you asked for a refund?
Has Gary denied you a refund?
You need to ask this first before you can off to Paypal and Visa.

Trading standards only get involved if you have recieved the product and is faulty or does not do what its advertised to do I believe

If you were not given a timeline of over 30 days at the time of placing the order and if delivery is now quoted as more than 30 days from placing the order then you can either agree a new extended delivery date or you are entitled to a full refund.  This is under the distance selling regulations. You shouldn\'t need to involve a third party unless a full refund request is refused.

Not true.  For example the statutory period for delivery for distance selling, unless agreed otherwise, is 30 days.  Trading Standards may get involved for persistent breach :spank (I\'m not saying that is the case here).

I spoke to Rotary art when the items hadnt turned up over three weeks ago and was told that they were coming in from the states and I would have them within three weeks and since then nothing. I wouldnt mind if I was updated or could track it but no chance. I hang on because I know if  I start again elsewhere I will have to wait three weeks more! The lady from Roteckniks was helpful, if a little embarrassed, and I think I will speak to them again about it as it is there name in the frame too

Cheers kevin

FedEx take 2 days to ship from here to the States depending on who is picking up the custom clearance costs.  Granted really big items it is more cost effective to send via sea.  But I sent a load of steering racks to the states, and they were on the customers doorstep within a few days.

Anyway for one, Im fed with company bashing on this forum, we seem to be to quick to slate anyone who doesnt deliver or does not provide this or does not provide that.

Then forget to praise them when they do good service.

Its got to stop guys!!

Soon they will be no choice companies out there doing rotary stuff.

We should just set up simple Polls on companies like in FDUK with five different choices 1-5 , 1 being Very good to 5 being bad.

You can not please 100% of the customers 100% of the time.

If you have a problem sort it out with them over the phone or visit them, posting your problems on the forum should be the LAST resort.

Why do you think the top Rotary Tuning companies dont advertise on here anymore or wont??

eg Dragon,Reworx,WGT,RXMotors etc etc

The slating has to stop!

I agree with Mark, but maybe we could add a feedback rating, similar to ebay. That way people can get a good idea of what to expect.
I\'ve bought from Gary plenty of time in the past and i\'ve always ben very happy with the service.

I dont think that this thread has fallen into a general bashing, and I dont think it should so dont let it by talking about vendor bashing.

I think all the question was about was whether 6 weeks is acceptable for delivery?  It may not be the fault of the vendor...might be the supplier, I have first hand experience of telling a customer that a product will be ready within a week or 2 and then the supplier is late delivering....the supplier doesnt get the bad press that is for sure!!

Agreed Jon, but I have seen threads like this develop into a bashing and it ends up in getting locked. So just trying to prempt it.
Bulla\'s idea of a feedback or poll thread is a good one.
Yes the suppliers of companies never get the bad press lol

I agree with all the comments above, and this wasnt about Vendor bashing. I have checked elsewhere and I know it takes time. My beef is that I wasnt told.  I started the string to see if anyone had contact numbers for Gary and that was provided. I spoke o rotechkniks and then to him and was told I would have the springs my now,  I asked him to keep me informed and rang yesterday but no response in either case. I am sure he is generally pretty good or he wouldnt have been here in the first place but all he has to do is call me. It is almost certainly a supplier problem but the vendor caries the can if he doesnt say otherwise. When the parts arrive in tippy top condition I will post a note here to close this out.

I agree with the supplier rating too, like you can on ebay would be good as it works both ways

Feedback ratings is a good idea, sorry if my post came across as vendor bashing It wasnt meant to. I\'ve had several bits off Gary in the past and always had good service. I just thought I\'d share my EMS experience as I\'ve had clutches etc delivered within days using their upto 30kg service.

A feedback section is only inherently fair if people consistently use it to record their experience. This happens on E-bay because feedback has a supplementary value. Equally, because of that, E-bay feedback ratings are apparently \'transferable\' so how valuable are they really as an indicator of customer satisfaction?  Amazon pay people to post reviews and feedback on books they sell. Are their opinions necessarily a totally true reflection of the quality of the title? I doubt it...I know people who do it. :o  There is only so often you can bite the hand that feeds you after all!

There is a feedback section in the Advertiser\'s pages on here but it is not exactly a hive of activity and I don\'t think it contains too many complaints. That might be because all concerned don\'t get complaints or because ticking a box is less fulfilling than sounding off. If it was expanded to include others would it be better used and if not, how useful/accurate would it be?

I have no axe to grind either way but am sceptical about the power of polling to prove much. Since \'good service\' is what everybody expects to receive it is unremarkable. Special mentions will be for the uncommonly good or bad ends of the spectrum. As nothing travels faster than bad news and good news often fails to gets out of the box, the balance is likely to be on the minus side, distorting the true picture, unless there is a generic user-benefit in posting about the unremarkable. On E-bay this comes in the form of a quid-pro-quo as customers accumulate feedback too. Anyone on here fancy that? :D

No one seems to mind when an unabashed rogue is outed on these pages. (I can think of 2 in the last few years - neither of them mentioned in this thread I should probably point out.) From observation the problem appears to be that this, like many niche markets, is often subject to differing levels of service from the same supplier depending on a wide range of factors and timing, maybe even the specific customer involved - and not always related to the level of spend.

If a 1-5 system were used what would it record?
Keen pricing?, breadth of offer?, expertise?, delivery times?, good communications? customer service?  good blokes?
There are as many ways to slice results as there are reasons for people to contribute but if 1 is appalling and 5 is unbelievably excellent, there are only three degrees between. That would make 3 the standard \'good service.\' (the unremarkable expectation of every customer) Not much space for shades of grey in 1-5 is there?  Simple to use systems are ultimately not too informative - it is finding the balance that is difficult. After that it would be rigourous use of it to record transaction histories (like E-bay) rather than subjective opinions on individuals or companies that would make it effective and useful for all.
Title: and finally to a disappointing conclusion!

I have just been notified by email from Paypal that my money has been refunded. Since I have heard nothing from Rotary Art I assume this means the parts have not and will not arrive.

So its back to square one and six plus weeks waiting to start work on my car wasted. He may have served some people well but for my part  I would not recommend using Rotary art again

On a more hopeful note can anyone recommend a reliable supplier before i head off into the boondocks again?

Cheers All

My 2p\'s worth is that no-one of reasonable nature gets too horribly upset if delays hapen with overseas shipments, because it\'s generally accepted as part of the risk of buying from such a source. However, what gets people\'s back up more than anything else is when the vendor fails to communicate, for whatever reason, the state of play. If all you get is bounced back emails from a full box, or an answerphone that\'s never followed up, it\'s understandable that it annoys. Customer service is a vital skill that simply must be practised in this day and age...

I ordered a boost controller from the USA that arrived within a week! Conversely, I\'ve ordered some other stuff from a rotary parts vendor that haven\'t arrived after a month. I\'m happy (as I can be) with this because the vendor in question has emailed and phoned me regularly to keep me informed as to the reasons for the hold up, and offered full refund etc if I wanted it. That\'s what makes the difference to me anyway, courtesy costs nothing and may keep you your customers!

I\'d like to point out his is not intended to be a comment levelled at Gary or RotaryArt because I think he\'s a very genuine guy who generally can\'t do enough to keep his customers happy, but just a general comment in response to previous opinions.

I also think, like Jinx says, the eBay feedback approach is hopelessly flawed and creates a totally skewed viewpoint by which to judge a vendor. Oscar currently has 100% positive feedback on at least two of his (illegal) eBay identities......Simply arbitrarily adding a number from one to five does not coverthe spectrum of experience adequately; a 1 could mean anything from "the product was utter shatulation but the vendor was a spiffing bloke who was really helpful. However, I hold them responsible" to "the product was dirt cheap and superb, but the vendor was an utter c0ck so I\'m marking it down". And the opposite for 5...it simply isn\'t detailed enough.

We just need to be able to act like adults and keep these things above the level of name-calling and laundry airing!

Places you could try are:

Hayward
Mazda rotary parts
WGT
RxMotors
Black Dragon automotive (USA based)
Mazdatrix (USA again)
Ebay (AUS, NZ especially)

Hope you get some at a good price (and then share the info!)

I would say that any damage done to Rotary Art by this episode must be self inflicted?

Anyway - this thread seems to have run its course and will now be closed.
