so can i jack from either of the follow points? They\'re both at the front of the car by the wheels.

cheers :D
I put the axle stands on the suspension point in your 2nd photo - so should be plenty strong enough to jack there. :)
result. Ive decided to jack it up onto ramps, that way i can keep the car much higher.
thanks prof :cheers
Never good to jack on suspension arms (photo 1). In addition to the chances of slippage it also puts the cars weight on bushes that were not designed to take it. Forgive my impudence if you never intended to use the arms in Photo 1.
well i intended to use the arms where the bushes are. Though id rather ruin the bushes than the sills as i have a new set of bushes ready to go on.
still a bad idea?
To lift an FC I always jack on either the diff or the front subframe, then I put some stands or ramps under it depending on what job I\'m doing.
awesome, what actually is the front subframe. I hear the term all the time yet have no clue.
*runs off to google*
oh i see, can you jack from anywhere on the subframe?
*runs to look under car* :D
Just make sure you jack in a position that\'s not likely to strike off and go through the sump or something - remember the angle of the subframe will change as you raise the car, can be enough to make it slide if your jack doesnt have a large enough cup.
awesome, shall let you know when it all goes horribly wrong :P

It\'s basically something solid that the engine and suspension can mount to. If it isn\'t thick - don\'t jack on it - so that includes the Sump, Radiator, Oil cooler - as they are all soft as putty and you\'ll only make that mistake once ;)
I must admit I jack on the sills at the jacking point, but then the vert has a much thicker floor pan and it\'s been strengthened there. Having seen a few coupe\'s, I wouldn\'t jack there on them
The rear joint for the front suspension (2nd photo) is actually a hefty bit of metal - in on two substantial bolts, and is not the suspension arm itself - that\'s carried inside on a bush and bolt. The bracket itself is fairly strong and certainly shows no signs of trouble when I\'ve used it for axle stands. They are curved, but then so are the tops of my stands, so they sit nicely in there - you just have to make sure that the car \'lands\' squarely in the cup of the axle stand when it comes down on the jack.
well the car is currently being jacked from there. Though if im going to successfully jack it onto the ramps im going to need a bigger jack!! Currently got a halfrauds jack sitting on a slap of concrete!
And you didnt actually jack it off the rad did you?
A slap of concrete? That must really hurt.... :Giggle
errr why not drive it onto the ramps ???????????
it wont go into gear... and now thats its missing the clutch slave cylinder, intercooler and gear stick it definitely wont go into gear :P
Though was thinking of towing it up on the ramps, off come the fenders!!
i dont think you will beable to jack it that high to get it on ramps - you have to get the wheels miles off the floor
as you jack the chassis - the wheels drop anyways ( suspension travel ) - so the 10 inch you jack up the car - you might only raise the wheels 2 inch in real terms
good luck with this one :D :D
Mine have always been too low to get onto my Ramps - I use a 20T trolley jack - can lift it 3ft with that! :Giggle

Not I - but I\'ve seen someone do it - and it made a hell of a mess too :Hammer
Funny thing was - much like our rads, it was just sat on the bottom bracket - and held in by 2 little clips, it came off the car really easily - along with all his coolant :(
my tii/egi/scenic have always been too low for ramps
but a short peice of scaffolding plank and some bricks always helps :D
ok so i just went out and bought a half decent jack...
I was on the ramps with in 10 minutes...

If you can reach the diff on your FC.. then your can clearly isnt low enough!:p
huge ass petrol tank in the way of the diff for me.. cant even get an ally race jack on it.

Thats where a couple of blocks of wood come in handy - just drive on to those first :Thumbsup! :D
