Title: Non starting Rx7
Post by: fd3s_ on March 28, 2009, 07:50:06 PM
Alright, I went out and bought a 2nd Rx7 even before I could get my 1st one with the single turbo and possible damaged water seals fixed. But for £1500 I just couldn\'t let it go with its Defi gauges, Apexi adjustable height and dampening suspension, toad alarm with engine start and text alert etc.

Car has been parked still since July last year and never moved or started, hell the calipers were seized and we had to hit them few times to get the car moving.

Ignition on, attempt to start and it cranks over but doesn\'t fire up. Sometimes it sounds like it about to start and spring to life and then dies again. I removed EGI fuses 1st tried to crank it few times, put the fuses back on but no joy. Removed the spark plugs and EGI fuses again and cleaned the plugs, cranked it few times and could see a lot of mist blowing out and then it all cleared. Then attempted to start again but still no joy.

Now Im left with few options, run a compression test (yet I hear that Rx7\'s that haven\'t moved for such a long time can have their Apex seals stuck), check the ignition to see if Im getting a spark.

Anything else you suggest to do before I declare this engine useless? Car has done approx 61,000 KM, which is just over 30,000 miles. Last compression tests done on April 29th 2008 by WGT and all rotors read around 6.5 over.

PS. I removed the spark plugs from my single turbo Rx7 to try on this one but to my surprise found that they were just standard plugs and not the usual rotary spark plugs which also you need to install in trailling and leading order? Is this normal? They are NJK plus part R6725-105 and these were installed by Lindopmotor sports during the single turbo conversion !!

Try the same process again but before you put the plugs back in put a little 2 stroke oil in the bottom holes. If it then fires it will run rough so dont let it dye keep revs on and it will clear after a minute or so.

Don\'t think I will mate, car\'s too good to break. Worset case a rebuild which I will probably carry out my self. Was planning to rebuild my 1st one but money went towards this car, but now every spare cash I get Im putting towards tools and rebuild components for the next 2 months or so.
