Title: prestige_partz, Has anyone bought from there?
Post by: banner on March 24, 2009, 08:00:59 PM
Hey all!

Im looking for a new rotary as mine has been broken for ages and now is the time for me to get my hands dirty.

So iv been looking around on ebay and have found a engine from Prestige Parts, It comes with a 6 month warranty and aparently has got new apex seals and new bottom end bearings (dont know what they are). Its on there for £1500.

Has anyone delt with this company before if so i would appreciate any feedback.

thanks Rich

steer well clear. I bought a car about 5 months ago which came with a spare engine which came from them. Turned out to be a right heap of crap....2 chipped apex seals and worn oil control rings....glad it wasnt me that paid 1500 for it....id have been livid if id paid 1.5k for that and then the labour to fit it (500 ish) only to find it was knackered!

Its also quite funny how its had its bottom end bearings done...considering they are only on piston engines lol welcome in mate :) have a nose around and ask questions :) im sure someone will know something about getting your rotary going again :)

Actually just found another one on ebay. he is saying that he has rebuilt it himself but has not changes the apex seals because they looked ok but has changed all the water and oil seals with mazda parts. Its done a compression test front rota 7.8/7.8/7.7 and rear rota is 7.9/7.8/7.8.

He might give a warranty but hasnt got back to me yet. He also said to make him a offer.

I dont really know if this would be ok to buy as the apex seals havent been changed so what advice would you give? and what would a half rebuilt rotary with manifold, exhaustmanifold turbo pack and flywheel normally sell for?

Its best to get an engine off someone who you can chat to easier, best not to take a chance, especially if you can only find out if its ok after its all back together.

Not everything has to be changed in a rotary when doing a rebuild, Apex seals one of them, theres tolerances and if they are well within them why change them.  However if I was going to the expence of stripping and rebuilding then I think I would get them done.  Thats me personally but many a builder if they can save a few hundred pounds then they will if it dont need replacing.
