Title: white smoke anyone?
Post by: Adam fc on March 14, 2009, 10:30:07 AM
hi,when i first start my egi there seems to be allot of white smoke coming from the exhaust,i know they run rich on start up and it has been rather cold recently and ive just put it down to condensation.
After it has reached its running temp of about 160 fahrenheit there appears to be no smoke what so ever coming from the exhaust. It dosent apper to be using any coolant and theres no mayo under the cap,is this normal for a cold start?? thanks

err, mine does that, sounds fine to me.

When you turn the car off you usually get water left in the exhaust, and some in the combustion chambers. When you start up the engine, it takes a while for all of the water to evaporate. Basically if it doesn\'t smoke once its been run for a bit you should be fine.

Try taking off the rad cap, filling till you can see the water, then get someone to crank the engine without the egi fuse, if you get bubbles apearing you could have a water seal leak. From what you\'ve said you sound fine. Both of mine do it, and one has 20k on a rebuild with new housings.

i still check them all the time though :P

There should only be a bit of blue/black smoke when it starts up which then goes, with is the oil/running rich, anything else, there will be issues!

Really depends on people\'s definition of "a lot". If you can\'t see anything behind when you start up, that\'s bad. :rollin
