My FD has developed a \'crunch\' when changing up into 2nd and 3rd gears - it is now quite strong. Don\'t have this issue when changing down gears or in any other gears. Also doesn\'t help how quickly I put iot into gear or whetehr the engine / gearbox has warmed up.
Am I looking at a new / rebuilt gearbox? :3Confused
It\'s the synchromesh that matches the gear speeds when swapping cogs that\'s taken a bash. It\'s a very common problem, usually the result of a hurried/slightly botched gearchange whilst everything\'s still cold and stiff (ooer!). They tend to last a long time without really getting any worse, though it\'ll probably fail altogether eventually. It\'s usually more a matter of how long you can stand it before you give in and get the gearbox rebuilt!
Secondhand ones often float by on eBay or for sale here for round about a hundred quid-ish, which may save you the hassle of rebuilding yours and the time with the car off the road, but there\'s no guarantee you wouldn\'t be buying one in just as bad a state. Fourth to fifth is a common synchro to fail, as well, so mind you don\'t "do" that one, too :Giggle!
HTH :Thumbs-up
thats the same problem ive got too, only started a few months ago but once the gearbox gets warm its better kinda
Wear and Tear im afraid... Mine does it from 3rd to 4th at full tilt... Really annoying coz you know it will have to be rebuilt soon after!!
I\'ve got transmission noise in mine at low rpm :(
Get a gearbox oil change, can only help.
Mine makes a racket, and crunches most of the gears, it\'s on borrwoed time :(
New oil made no difference at all. Post 350 is going to kill it quick i reckon :(
Syncros are for the ladies. Get a dog \'box.

wonder if you can actually get a dogbox for the fd that doesn\'t cost more than the car... love the sound of those things!
