Title: Mapping an FD3 on Apexi Power FC
Post by: suba on March 10, 2009, 12:25:04 PM
I\'ll be needing my FD3 mapped soon after adding a boost controller - the car is running the stock twins, and 326 bhp (fly) at the moment at 0.7 bar using the ecu to control the boost. (Mapped by Reworks via the previous owner).

Where is the best place to get it mapped within a reasonable distance of SW London?  I\'m after somewhere that will get safe power, rather than screw the nuts out of the engine, and will use det cans whilst mapping the car.

If I go up to 1.0 bar of boost are the standard injectors able to fuel adequately?:mmmm

You will most likely max the injectors out.

Thanks - can they still supply adequate fuel at 100% duty for I\'m guessing around 350-360 bhp, or should I be looking at bigger injectors?

Changes from car to car, i couldn\'t even get 310bhp from stock injectors. You should only run them up to 85%.

If Re:Worx orginally mapped the car then take it back there.  If you are near the A3 it\'s an easy run down to their place in Portsmouth.

Thanks - just wondering what people think of Re-worx (they were the obvious choice), a friend of mine has heard mixed reports about their mapping being pretty aggressive.

jesus, how did you get that much power on stock twins running that boost lol

I only got 281bhp @ .85 bar :(

So unfair.

dont run 1.0bar on stock injectors as you will definetly max them out then you will run lean then bye bye engine.  Once you have found a tuner to take your car you should ask there advise on what mods to do and which level of boost to run etc.  I think alot of the london guys go to Powergains or Hayward Rotary but never been to either myself

They map quite safe dude, they have a rolling road and map to a target afr and keep things safe, I wouldnt run 1 bar on stock injectors and pump.
You need upgrade the pump as a minimum when you add a boost controller if you want 0.9 BAR and keep it safe

Trev - The car has had the following engine mods:

HKS downpipe + racing beat rear box + decat mid section
ARC induction box
HKS Intercooler
Apexi Power F/C

What size / type of injectors would you reccomend?  Presumably the Power FC can work with the bigger size with a complete remap?

What fuel pump is the one to go for?:driving

theres a few different options, the most common is to keep the primary injectors standard and uprate the secondaries to 1600cc, you will also need to uprate the fuel rail and get a fpr, there are several companies that do fuel system kits where you get everything you need.

i got mine from here a couple years ago

theres also another company quite alot of people use but i cant remember the name lol

For pumps go for a Denso Supra TT pump is a good upgrade for twins or Apexi BNR pump or SARD

At 0.8 bar my injectors were seeing around 85% and 306 fwhp
at 0.9 the injectors were 92% and 326hp

Pip advised me to stick with 0.8bar as anything over 90% starts getting dangerous, also to add although my boost is capped on the pfc to 0.8 i have seen as high as 0.94 on really cold nights.

If the boost was set to 0.9 and the same margin of error applied that would take me well over 1bar and very likely detonation and tears

Neil,

I\'m guessing that you are not running a boost controller and the Apexi is struggling to dial out the overboost with a free flowing exhaust?

If you were running an EBC would this not dial out the overboost?

Impressive that your car jumped 20bhp with only 0.1 bar of boost - nice little engines these rotaries..... :-)
