Title: MR2 Headlights
Post by: m1tch on March 08, 2009, 01:56:29 PM
Hey guys, as I read on the interchangable items on a FC thread, it says that the lenses for the pop-up MR2 fit the FC, I was just wondering if any of the headlight conversion kits for the MR2 would fit an FC as well?

If they do, then might get some low rise \'rev 6\' quad headlights (just to be different lol)

I have been eyeing them up for a while, unlike the illegal ebay FD quad lights, these are e-rated, there are lots of different conversions for the MR2, this one drops the popup a bit like a sleepy eye conversion :)

looks like them, and if not, whats the difference? just got to make sure they\'re E-Marked

Yeah, it looks like its them, but I need to check that they are e-marked, I know some FD guys had issues with beam pattens regarding some sleek FD lights off ebay.

Also, just had a closer look at the picture, the front of the headlight cover, it usually bolts into the main frame of the light, if you look at the nearside light, the bit you can see silhouetted against the bonnet... its not attatched to anything...

Im also wondering why its got an EGI bonnet and a front mounted intercooler on that pic, so there will be no air flow...but then it dawned on me, its in the states, so they don\'t know about turbos and intercoolers *sigh*

well, isn\'t the main problem with the FC3S that the top mounted intercooler is prone the heatsoak, seeing as its on top of the engine? so lots of people go for front mounted intercoolers as a way to get around that?

Front mounts are fine, if you get the flow right, the air come in from the front and then exits though the top of the bonnet, if there isn\'t anywhere for the air to go, the intercooler won\'t work lol

They run inverted scoops like this:

wont the amount of air in eninge bay stay same though if you have a n/a or fmic?
still same amount of air going in..
where does the air go from a n/a??

i was thinking of putting a n/a bonnet on my fc.. they make a nice change n looki bit more sleek..

just thought also.. maybe worth askin my mate n see if he can source form jap.. used will be cheaper.. no?

The air coming into the front of the car has to go somewhere lol it flows though the front and then out the bonnet and over the car, if there is no-where for the air to go it won\'t flow, meaning the front mount is useless lol

it\'d go same flow as an n/a?
given it might be bit hotter than an n/a due to more heat given off from turbo engine and heat transfer from ic but the air still goes out...

if theres no flow then the rad wont be doing much either?!
(sorry, think i might be missing sth.. it is a monday after all lol, thats my excuse!!)

The NA bonnet doesn\'t need any air flow, NAs don\'t have intercoolers lol :D

they hav rads though.. similar thing as ic.. transfer heat..

if you want a red N/A bonnet, I still have my one

by the way, the rad is pretty low, and often enough the air through the underside of the car and under the engine is enough to keep it at the right operating temp. intercoolers on the other hand, their specific job is the cool the flowing air as much as possible, so any extra flow to remove any excess heat is a good thing

cheers.. i\'ll keep that in mind =)
but i really need the cooling with wot i got planned =D
tho n/a hood does look nice.. so does cf.. ahh.. too many choices lol

So going on from that how does a standard FD get rid of all that hot air on a standard bonnet?
Good cooling is all about a clean slick engine bay, fitted undertray and even with a FMIC with some good ducting the air will find a way rearwards, the FD prooves it can do that standard and thats with the intercooler in front of the rad.

i think fd\'s get rid of hot air by magic lol

i guess its not that important if the bonnet is vented or not with a fm as it is much less likely to get heat soaked unlike a v-mount?

sorry m1tch, i think we:
1) ruined your thread
2) gone off topic

back to topic, nice n different! maybe sign onto mr2 forum n see if anyone got mr2 that they are breaking?

lol, yeah, sorry m1tch, TBH, I like them and when the money starts rolling in again, I may save up and buy some myself if we can find an e-marked set

It dont go out the top, it goes out underneath, around the bellhousing on the FD etc (well from what I previously read on here it does!)

The FMIC and egi bonnet is basically doing the same thing I guess?

you dont always need a vented hood...
air going in through the front bumper, leaves under the car behind the subframe.

thats why you have an undertray, that prevents the air from going underneath the radiator...
