Title: Another Type-R hits the streets!
Post by: eyedee on April 07, 2004, 11:59:14 PM
After 10 weeks of HARD work, my RX7 twin turbo is finally insured and on the road!  :D   It\'s had quite a bit of work done to it, all by me, which I can only describe as gruelling.  But it\'s all been worth it - of course.  ;)   Its a twin turbo Type-R, white with full challenge car castrol racing decals, wide arch bodykit, rear wing, lowered on light weight 17" split rims (that need refurbishing), custom fibreglass bonnet with lotsa ventage, bonnet pins to keep the bonnet down!  5 1/2" chrome tail pipe and all round L.E.D. neons.  Interior wise, I removed sanded and sprayed the interior a black diamond fleck (keep it simple), whilst it was out fit a KMPH to MPH converter with built in de-limiter, sourced a 300mm leather clad steering wheel, snap off lockable BOSS kit, new switches (& new wiring), new alloy/carbon gear knob, made a leather gaitor rather than buying one, created new brackets for 2 single DIN stereos to fit in (the original stereo fitment was cut away! and therefore useless), a turbo timer bracket and a damn good clean.  The car was in need of TLC when it arrived.  It had been sprayed inside by an over enthusiastic individual who didnt know when to stop spraying - he sprayed over everything - including the dials and heater dials etc!  Ive had to source all sorts of new bits and peices including parcel shelf, glove box, battery case/cover/clamps, heater controls, dials,  interior panels, bonnet clasp and other niggly little things (which can be suprisingly difficult to find).  But she\'s running smoothly and really taking shape!  The looks she got this evening made all the work worthwhile.  Having a Clifford alarm fitted tomorrow with new turbo timer and remote start.  Even my insurance has amazed me at £880 fully comp with all mods, when Im only 24.  Thankyou very much for all your help, hints and tips Ive managed to source from you guys and gals.  Once again, thankyou!  :wave

reading meet 20 April (normally 3rd Tuesday in month) http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5383

would be good to finally get some rexs there! I\'ve been holding the fort for the last 2 months! I have refused to take the Scooby down even though it\'s for sale as there\'d be no RX7s there at all + I\'d be one of many scoobs   common as muck these days :rollin

Hey,

You are correct sir! - They are TOMS Castrols, Si.  :)

Can you tell me where you got it from, as I really need one as my cars a right pain to get into.

Sorry, I really cant remember as I visited hundreds of shops searching for the perfect mods. Do a search for \'Mountney 300mm Leather Type-M steering wheel\' though, as thats what it is.

How did you fix that number plate.

Its fixed with triangular brackets which are drilled and fixed through the underside of one of the horizontal fins which spans the length of the lower air intake gap.

The neons were VERY difficult to fit.  My REX has an aero tray which attached to the front splitter and runs the full length of the car.  So finding gaps higher than the grounding point of the vehicle which would still display the lighting was a real challenge.  Then getting the wiring through the car was suprisingly difficult as there are no chasms running above the rear wheel arches - its all chassis or fixed metal body panelling.

cheers   :wave
