Title: Exhaust tip styles
Post by: m1tch on February 26, 2009, 09:31:32 PM
Hi guys, I am getting a full custom system from JM Garage soon, I am going for a twin exit 3" system, but am looking for ideas for the rear mufflers. I am thinking that jap cans would look best, but if people can post up any nice twin systems up I can have a look and decide :)

Thanks guys :D

My current exhaust mufflers (not stock):

I\'d say twin 3" pipes with rolled, chrome ends - it will look the nuts :D

tried to get some of them but no luck Dave. Got some 3" tips with the mazda logo though !! Going to cut the logo out and use the tips as they are quite good quality.
Round is good but sometimes against a standard bumper the 3" can look too big. Ovals will give a more flush look but still fill the exhaust bumper hole very nicely.

Ok, I will have a look at getting some oval tips done then, so perhaps japcans with oval tips? I might see if there are any japcans at the garage to just put it next to the car and check the fitment, I am with pete on this, I want something that looks almost stock that follows the OEM cutouts

Would be cool if I could also get blue flame burnt tips like this:

Has anyone got a photo of stubby japcans?

What kind of end can gives a deep exhaust sound?

Loads of companies have a huge range of boxes - might be worth looking at what Jetex have?

Thinking of something like this, slight slash tips, the blueing is titanium so I can\'t afford those :( but I might get a burnt tip?

What does everyone think? burnt or polished?

Surely the bunrt tip effect only works on titanium, doesn\'t it ?

It seems you can do it on SS as well:

Just found a link from another forum:

Seems that you can do it with SS, just takes a higher temp :)

With titanium the colour seems to be dependant on how hot you get it...if you heat it to cherry red it goes the deep purple colour, or blue fading to orange and the yellowy straw colour where it\'s been coolest. It does mean that the welds on titanium (which I gather is ****ing hard to do!) are objects of great beauty! This is my one, seems a shame to stick it underneath a car, really....

Didn\'t know that it worked on stainless, though I should\'ve twigged, really, since the collector on my bike\'s started to do it all on its own accord! :Giggle

Yeah, JM Garage is doing mine, he it buying in the tips as they are hard to do well on SS, its easier to get that on titanium as it requires less heat, full titanium systems are out of reach for me due to the cost of it as the welding is very specilist, plus titanium costs a lot lol

Seems I will be going with a twin exit, perhaps stubby cans for a lower exhaust note, with 3.5" burnt slash cut tips :)
