Title: I jinxed it...
Post by: Ste00 on February 25, 2009, 10:32:43 PM
RX has been running sweet for ages... then being a idiot i searched for the cheapest fuel in my are.... turned out to be BP...

Put 30 quid in did 20 miles (used a quater of a tank wich is worrying....) and then it started missfiring like mad and cut out... managed to get it started and home... took it for a spin after checking everything over and it cut out at 60.... not fun

Now she wont start i am guessing its down to the fuel so i am going to change the filter at the weekend and keep my fingers crossed....

Being towed past all the pubs at 20mph by a rac van isnt fun.... :o

Not sure tbh but i wouldnt have thought so the engine is spotless after being re-built and it seems too much of a coincidance that i put different fuel in and now it wont get pressure after the filter...

Sure you didn\'t put diesesial in? lol hope it gets sorted mate! Is yours mapped to 100RON then?

Nah i put normal unleaded in... some idiot had wrapped the diesel hose round it tho so i did rip the diesel filler off as well...

dont think it is mapped for 100ron as its a EGI but she is being a stubbon madam tonight.... think it might just be dirt in the fuel clogging the filter...

if its an EGI - it will run on 95 ron - so no worries there i suppose

and £30 to do 20 miles - thats some serious leak or worse you have there

get the plugs out in the day light and have a look at them - if they are soaked in fuel - then thats prob why its running bad

then we just need to work out why :D

This is why I thought it might be an injector leak or something fuel related as using that much fuel there is something up lol

tried again today with a new fuel filter (cheap halfords one as they wanted 50 quid for "the right one" wich would have been wrong...)... still no luck... if you prime the pump 3 times it will start do the startup rev to 3k then if u time it just right you can put some throttle on and hold it at 2k revs... if it drops below 1700rpm it just dies...

I still think its the pump as the engine was re-built 20k~ ago roughly so cant see a injector becoming a problem so soon... though she has always hunted for idle until warm from around 800rpm to 1krpm...

as for the mpg... i er... have a ever so slightly heavy right foot... it didnt use the full 30 quid tho just half of it so i am guessing it will do about another 20 miles on the rest.... but thats 40 miles to half a tank... cant rember it being that bad when i used it every day...

when you are trying to start it have someone spray instant start around the injectors and manifold, see if this causes it too fire which indicates a vac leak or maybe injector seal leak but with that you would get fuel.......possibly a fire!!
The cars should run quite freely on 95 or 100 RON but my white car starts terrible on 95 and only 100RON goes in her now, took me a year to work that one out!!
It might well be the pump but you need to find out firstly is it too much fuel or not enough.
Dont also get blinded thinking its a fuel problem as it may well have been a coincidence, happened to me on many occasions.
Got to do the basics
Fuelling-too much or not enough
Sparks
Check AFM
disconnect battery and reconnect

Does sound like the pump though, mine did exactly the same only a few months ago..

think i cured it... for about 30 seconds... the AFM plug had fell off and being right down under the air filter i couldnt see it...

so it started.... ran... idled... i switched it off and now its refusing to start its just turning over and not fireing... think it might be flooded i have took all 4 plugs out and left it for a while then tried it again with the fuel pump switched off then on and it still wont start :2Mad

ah well at least today i stripped all the soundproofing out and started removing things i dont need on it... cd player... speakers... heaters... :bandit
