Hi everyone :wave

New to this club and glad I found it. There seems to be a lot of useful info available which I am pleased about since I don\'t know much about the RX7.
I currently drive a Celica190 (which I hope to sell soon), and get myself an RX7.
Are there any recommended models which you guys prefer, and for what reasons?

Hope to be able to join you some time soon at one of the meets (provided I sell the Celica ).:)

Good point!
I was looking at spending no more than about £10k in all, but I think I would be open to spending a little more if I see something really nice.

Hey dude welcome to the club :) :wave

Most of us have types R\'s, though there\'s a few lucky people who have RS\'s and RZ\'s (the higher models) though if you buy from Japan it\'s more than likey you\'ll get more than what\'s in a stock rz anyway hehe. I love my type R :D

If ya serious about getting one (i.e. got to that stage where you\'re thinking "who do I give my money to?") go to a reputable dealer as if you buy a lemon it\'s gonna cost ya an arm and a leg.

There\'s pleantly of places to get them from. I got mine from Newera (//www.neweraimports.com)  who I was very happy with, great service, sexy car :D Linney (//www.Linney.org)  also supplies niceen\'s as does http://www.rotaryimports.com (http://www.rotaryimports.com) (could go on all night http://www.jimmys-rx7.co.uk (http://www.jimmys-rx7.co.uk) ) but as I say I\'d find a decent place! There\'s some nice en\'s on the forum for sale too.

What\'s you\'re budget? After any look?

That your silver Beastie in your avatar?

Looks absolutely stunning!!

I can see I\'m gonna learn a lot from you guys! :D

Just gotta sell my beast and I can look forward to the RX7. BTW, how do you guys manage insurance. Are there club schemes?
Reason why I ask, I am 25 and don\'t want to have to pay too much (no more than £1500 FC) to insure. Any ideas?
Thanks for your replies so far
;)

Post by: Andyp on April 07, 2004, 09:25:38 PM
Jap imports are a little more to insure as insurance companies seem to think that it\'s a good idea to replace any wrecked parts with JDM (Jap domestic market) rather than use readily available UK ones :)

tbh you\'re 25 which opens a lot of doors for ya...though do be aware they are a group 20 car.. (the most expensive group)

Might help to do a search for ya postcode too there\'s a thread which informs you what the insurance companies think of your address :)

I\'m 23 atm (24 in may) and paying £1495 full comp with 5 years nc... so you should get lower than £1500 though you know what insurance companies are like with it, think they just make it up a lot of the time hehe

There\'s a club scheme which can be utilised if ya join the club with a company called AON.

Thanks for the comments dude. Should be in Jap Performance mag next month / month after (?)

here\'s my fav pic of mine * can tell i\'m proud can\'t ya ;) *

You should be proud m8. That IS awsome!!

I just had mine featured in this months BANZAI Jap mag, and what a buzz!! Would love to do it again, and I hope to with the RX7. I know JDM, I have a couple parts on my Celi, and they are good parts, like you say, go for the JDMs rather than the UK stock.
I will be sure to get a copy of the mag you car features in. Be good to read about it:cool

Hi Griff :wave

The links given on this thread so far are a great place to start looking. There\'s a guy near to where I work who just bought a rx-7 from Jimmy\'s and he had nothing but good things to say about them (including their after sales help with a couple of things).

I went with Newera, mainly because I struggled to find a low mileage post MY1999 car in the UK. They are really helpful and will find you a car in Japan to exactly the spec you want providing you can wait for the whole process which takes a while. For example, I put my deposit down in December and should be collecting my car in two or three weeks time (although I think mine might have taken a bit longer than normal). Can\'t recommend them enough so far tho :yes

For rx-7 model info, I spent a night searching on Google and the best site I found for a general summary was this one (http://www.rx7.net.nz/fd-jp-models.html). It\'s also worth spending time searching the archives of this forum as most basic questions have usually been asked and answered already :)

Nice one!
Those sort of reviews are good news to me. I will be sure to have a look into the archives of this forum to check out whats hot / whats not, and then look into the likes of the previously mentioned links to importers and dealers.

Griff,

Depending on what sort of power you\'re after try //www.dragonperformance.co.uk, Ross normally has high powered ones.

Also try //www.autotrader.co.uk, the reason being that most of the importers will advertise on there too.

Thanks for all the info guys. Been looking for cars today while at work and calling around for insurance quotes etc. Best quote I have is from DIG (Dorset Insurance Group), on a Jap import £1700!! for a Type R 2.6. Thats £200 more than I am paying on my Celi at the moment, but the catch is NO MODDING!! and ax excess of £560!

I will have to try to get more quotes next week :(

Thanks Michal :)  Thats handy info to have.

I will be giving each and every one of those places a call on Tuesday. I have heard of a couple of them, like Adrian Flux and Carol Nash, but didn\'t think to try them.

I Would like a Type R 2.6 TT in Black to begin with, just to get me used to the cars, then perhaps either modify or upgrade after  while.

Called jimmys-RX7.co.uk (spoke to Andrew) today and found out that he has a nice Black Type R, 2.6 TT on the boat and due in the docs on Sunday! So provided all goes to plan, that will be my new baby!
Agree with what has been said about Jimmys though, VERY friendly place, even took my name should I call back and want to view the car when Its ready to view. I didn\'t realise they even re-build the engines, service and replace tyres etc before the cars go out to the market! Top Notch place!!

Thanks for ALL the info you guys have given me so far. Its priceless stuff! :D

Nath, very nice! only £7.8k?? Not a bad price at all. Is that UK or Jap spec?
I will be looking aroung the Auto trader etc, just to make sure I cover my bases and try to find a car that suits me.
I take it people tend to look after these cars pretty well, and as such, they tend to always be in pretty good condition. Is that right?
But if I can find one as clean looking as yours Nath, I\'d be a happy bunny! :)

Post by: Nath on April 09, 2004, 09:00:22 AM
Its a Jap Spec Type R ,

Yeah some people do look after them but then yu get some that dont , allways remember that when there in Japan you just dont know whats been done to it of how its been driven so you can only go on looks and a few test drives ,

I was happy with it but if i had done more research maybe i would have not got this one as i wanted to put different bumpers on and not relising that they can be £400 - 1K for a Nose cone i would have got one slightly kitted up  allready.

But im still very happy with it , just the way it rumbles down the road and people just stand and stare just brings a smile to my face :D

Are there any noises, creaks, knocks I should look out for when checking out one of these cars?

Griff

I live just down the road, got my RX about a month ago (96 black RZ :) ).

For insurance I\'m using Chaucer through Houghton Insurance brokers as shown in the thread, and am paying just under £800 FC with £350 excess.  I\'m 27 with full protected NCB, on a 1996 RZ (mods are no problem for Chaucer, although I\'ve only got a cat back and HKS filter).

Good luck mate, if you\'d like to meet up let me know.

Chris

None since I\'ve taken ownership :(  Was planning to take a load after a wash and polish yesterday, but it started raining just after I started polishing, so stopped there....

Pics of it before I bought it can be seen here (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4449)

I\'ve made some minor changes since these pics (clear lights at front, indicators and side reflectors wired into side lights), as well as new headunit and speakers all round; which in my opinion looks really good!  I\'ve got some Porsche replica alloys (as in the URL above) coming soon hopefully, so I think they will really finish the modding for me...at least for the moment!

I\'ll be going to Bolney next weekend, are you coming?  Might see you there.

I was in Kingston last weekend, and heard a very familiar noise from behind - it was a black RX7, same as mine.  Do you know who this was?

Cheers
Sach
