Title: Mapping Advice please
Post by: SmbFD3S on February 24, 2009, 11:44:03 AM
Ok, rebuilt the engine over christmas and is about 100 miles off a 1000 mile run in with no/little boost right now.  Everything is stock apart from Apexi ECU and modified intake (through original boxing to give 100% fresh air).

Now when she\'s run in i have an HKS downpipe to go on and full 3 inch exhaust which has a sports cat.

Questions:-

1) Are boost spikes likely to happen with this downpipe and will i need to get a boost controller?  (currently has the UK Pre Cat on it)

2) If i just replaced the downpipe and left the rest of the exhaust standard would this make a difference?

3) Would i need to get the car mapped for either of the above?

Previous to the engine rebuild i ran the car with the 3" exhaust from the Pre CAT downpipe for approx 11 months and the twins running at 0.9 bar on the Apexi basemap with no issues whatsoever, so would the downpipe push this over the edge and need a re-map ?

Thanks for any help/advice

Scott

Anyone?

Particularly interested in option 2 now mainly due to the pre-cat holding heat and raising engine bay temps, so could i swap over for the HKS without a remap if i keep the main standfard cat and backbox?

Would appreciate anyone\'s opinion?

Personally get it mapped, as you have UK car there will be a big difference when you stick the downpipe on, WGT I think is your nearest tuners

Hmmm, even with the apexi on?  I thought as much to be honest, i\'ll hold out til i get the intercooler and everything on then and get all done to be on the safe side.

Cheers for the reply :)

Some cars can run safe on the base map with a downpipe some cant, dont risk it my opinion.
yep stick all your mods in one go and get it mapped once is the best option

i wouldnt trust the base map mate, i added an exhaust with de cat, new filters and the apexi base map, found out at rolling road it was running rich on idle, extreamly lean on boost and with the decat i had a few boost spikes and some other running problems, took it to have it remaped and its running alot better now, its faster, better on fuel and thats running less boost than the base map

Its funny how the base map runs on different engines, but I wouldnt trust the Apexi base map with a decat.  My RX7 runs fine on the base map. Only mods are SMIC, HKS induction and HKS catback.  I have a full datalogit and innovate mapping kit and all the figures show fine. It idles at 14.8, cruises at 15-16 and peaks at 11 at WOT. I know a good tuner would lean it out a tad but the car doesn\'t do a lot of miles, sails through the MOT and goes great.
Having just said that I just sold it......what a ejit !!!
