Title: My FMIC Install Pic\'s
Post by: L18M on February 20, 2009, 12:46:24 AM
Hey,
as lots of people are considering fmic i though rather then email ppl pics i\'d put some pics up.
hope it helps :)
Not the best pics but some is better than none.

Had to drill a hole in each front corner for the pipe work

the screen washer bottle stays in the same place but had to be changed to a smaller one. Not sure what bottle it is as i got it from benlewismay
had to remove the front crunch bar to fit ic (i dont have a crush bar on now)
also for my ic, the front bumper had to be trimmed a bit to fit the ic.

the coil had to be relocated a bit and the batt is bit small than stock batt

very cramped! and bit messy engine bay!

I always thought your intercooler was bigger than that. Getting worried now that mine will be way too big.

the IC filled the big hole in the bumper really nice so hard to tell from looking at front if it goes up any higher lol

on a side note, i say my v-mount and tbh it didnt look that big
bit thicker.. bit taller.. bit shorter but if u size it up its bigger than this. still bit too big for the cheese tub i got but means its fully future proof along with my 1680s :P

oops.. kinda off topic now lol

you running that on the standard turbo?

Post by: L18M on August 22, 2009, 12:36:26 PM
mine was good for 350ish so was a little bit too big for stock tub. if u guys r running stock tubs then u might as well be running an egi block in there hehe..
tub kick in bout 4.5 / 5k revs me thinks..

think my new ic is about the size of mukumusubarumitsubish (:p) but then have got a bigger tub. think can prob run a T04R well on you ic. :)

Yeah mine is a similar size to that. Stock tub + big intercooler = Biiiiiiig Lag! Maybe i\'ll sell it and hold out for mitch\'s top mount!

or you could fit it as an insentive to upgrade you\'re compressor. Also if you sort the fueling out, get a decent rad, then fit your pfc you can run silly boost till the turbo dies. Then you\'d be FORCED to upgrade the compressor :D

so i\'s the turbo on an FC particularly small then? Ive driven a mates R33 which had a stock tub and a massive front mount and lag really wasn\'t a problem

really cant see the size of intercooler causing a problem in the ways of lag it all depends on what your idea of big lag is i guess

Depends though doesn\'t it on the volume of the pipework and intercooler. As in there is a lot more in a big front mount and piping compared to the stock top mount and couplings. With out changing the turbo\'s output it will take longer to build the same amount of pressure in a larger volume. Shame I can\'t afford a hybrid like the one speedline had for sale at the moment.

or u can make ur own v-mount. shorter pipes, less lag :)

it does make me wonder at the size of intercooler people are putting on their cars,is there a reason for such big ones on road cars is it cause your more in traffic etc than what you would be on track?

well my view on it is that if you\'re going to spend all that money going front mount in the first place you might aswell get something big. There is an element of style involved, and its good for cooling.

Or you can get an uprated top mount and have no lag whatsoever lol boosts to 0.5bar within 1/2 a second :D

I feel lag with my stock intercooler when i change gear. Takes a second or so to get back up to boost. In all fairness its running nearly twice as much boost as yours though :P
