i would assume that you could pay close attention to the engine bolts - if they are chewed or summat daft - then yes you could say that it has had engine work done

best way is compression test :)

Good question and it is one that I can\'t answer. But will just ask more questions, which will hopefully lead to a good comprehensive answer from someone ;)

My car has done 121,000km\'s, now that is approx. 74,000 miles. I\'ve now done 20miles in it and she runs sweet as a nut, starts first turno of the key from hot and cold. So is there anyway to tell whether it has been rebuilt in Japan??? I.e. are there any seals, clamps, special hose clips that would of needed to have been brocken, replaced etc during an engine rebuild/removal. So that I can now look at my engine and from this info I can determine whether it had been taken out previsously or not.

Cheers,

Paul:)

from what you say about yours - then yes it could be a good engine

first signs are that they wont start from hot ( or cold )

its a pity mazda didnt think of putting some sort of seal on the engine - that is broken during a rebuild that you could easily see - nah tooo obvious ! :)

Theres no firm way to tell, a compression test will tell you just that
, which is a good indicator but does not always predict future engine failure

The engine may have been removed previous to work on something esle so its all guess work anyway :)

take my way of working

if the engine blows up - throw it away and buy another one

OR

whilst its running fine - save up the ££££ like mad - cause it will go pop eventually

:)

Wise Words from Mr Grinder

Owning an FD is very expensive ! suprises me how many people buy them and don\'t realise that, get saving those pennys ! :)

Not including petrol but including serviceing, rebuild, repayments and rebuild my FD\'s cost me over £1k/month and I\'ve only had it 8 months.  They\'re not cheap by any reckoning.  1 year of ownership will set me back more than the value of the car!

If I don\'t take the rebuild into account it\'s more acceptable though.

Unless you can guarantee that there\'s been a recent rebuild then assume it hasn\'t had one and have 2-3k+ available for tlc.
