Title: FD Questions- exhaust and wheels
Post by: CharlieP on February 16, 2009, 07:25:35 PM
Hi all-

I currently have just a Blitz Back Box, and love the sound!
Now I was thinkingof putting on a different down pipe and de-cat (or sports cat) since I heard that the 99s were quite stifled by the down pipe? :3Confused

And wheels-
Will an offset of 24 make it steer and handle really badly?

you will prob want to get a silenced decat as ive heard a combination of strsight through decat and blitz exhaust can be very loud.  You will get some good power gains by getting a silenced decat and bigger bore downpipe :Thumbsup!

I got +22 (9J front 10j rear) on mine, got more grip but actually prefer the feel of the stock setup   Feels like the car wants to wonder about :Giggle

Sure though a nice trick suspension setup (as in different and more adjustable arms, cambers etc) will remedy this.

Offset and it\'s effects depends on the width of the wheels and the tyre choice.
Ricco - what tyre width are you running? wide tyres on teh front will cause tramlining issues on surfaces that, well, aren\'t racetracks!

There 18s, 8.5/9.5.....didnt want 18s but these wheels are so nice!

Exhaust- love the current noise, and didnt want to spoil it, so silenced decat, and slihtly bigger down pipe should be ok?

Removed my cat a few months ago, the difference in response is electric!!

Bear in mind that if you remove downpipe and cat you\'ll have to organise a re-map as well in case you get nasties llike boost spike, etc

Only 235 upfront!  Tyre is a little streched, not much,  but would rub on the arch (arch liners installed) with 245 and cause a worse handling effect (as you say with the tramlining)

225 up front for me with a fair bit of stretch but 255 rears with zero stretch.

Awesome
Yup got the Apexi already, so will get the different down pipe

Is the mid pip separate to the cat pipe?

Jap cars have cat only in mid pipe (or mid pip if you like :Giggle)  If UK car you will also have a cat in the downpipe (pre-cat) :)

FD exhaust is 3 parts.  Downpipe, midpipe & catback.  You already got the catback done so go for a scilenced center or sports cat.  As you say you can also go for a larger diameter downpipe at the same time.  Dont forget to get it mapped ;)
