Just got the Mrs a 2004 RX8 231 in Mica Red eith the black and red leathers... Its bloody lovely! Why we did not get one sooner is now beyond me!
I am thinking its more fun on the crappy roads round here than my RX7! It just misses the kick in the back when you really go for it. I doubt it will be anything like the 7 on a track but hey its not bad for going to tescos and back :Giggle
I will put some pictures up later when the rain stops.
She wants it to sound like the 7 so I will be on the look out for a zorst and filter. Any recomendations to good ones happily accepted!

I doubt she will let me take it to the track. I took her WRX to nurburgring in October. It was not really the same after so got sold quickly afterwards. :(
It was a bargain, 04 39k, amazing condition, 1 owner, fmsh, 6.9k. It feels really tight still as it only done motorway miles. I am swapping the s2000 with her next week :)
I will try and take them both to rotorstock this year as I missed the last two events, so double the cars to make up for it.
If you want a fruity exhaust note, go for a stainless steel high flow cat and something like a Racing Beat or Borla Exhaust. It gives them the proper rotary howl like a manic chainsaw. That little lot should be about £800. Induction kits like the RB Revi are good too for a bit of extra throat to the note!
Hi and welcome to the great ownership of an 8, the power delivery is very linear on an 8 and you don\'t get any real kick in the back as you do with a turbo but having said that you might be surprised just how quickly you\'ll be going. As for round a track I think you might be surprised just how quick they can be due in part to the great handling.
Having owned standard and big power RX-7\'s I would agree with the deceptively fast bit and would say they far out handle an RX-7,
When the RX-8 was announced I remember that Mazda took a Spirit R and an RX-8 around Laguna Seca and a track in Japan and both achieved near identical lap times indeed there is a film out there on the internet of the Japanese "encounter" where the camera is in the RX-8 following the RX-7, yes the RX-7 accelerates away but the RX-8 makes ground in the corners, hence the very similar lap times,

It was easily playing tag round the bends with an m3 e46 :)

Great car the RX8 but no match for a 7 round the track
I won\'t bet on that I think you\'ll find the 8 will give a standard 7 a good run for it\'s money round a track when you think it was as quick as both an M3 and a 350Z round the topgear test track it shows it\'s not all down to power.

I think a standard 7 (1994) will be a fair race with a standard 231 rx8 specially if there was some tight twisty wet bends. Eg top gear track however a fast long circuit like nurburgring on a warm dry day a 7 would be a bit quicker. So far it feels like the 7 picks up quick mid range and goes longer with it\'s 5 speed box. Less gear changes required therefore save a few half seconds.
The main thing in it is u can make the 7 faster for less cash. Raise boost!
Either way they are both awsome value cars compared to m3 and 350z.

The 8 is quick because it\'s so easy to drive right up to the limit, 7\'s are far more twitchy with their shorter wheelbase and more aggressive power delivery. Certainly on standard springs and dampers and with an engine that was subsiquently discovered to be well passed its best I had little trouble keeping up with all but the fastest traffic at Brands last summer. I did have trackday tires on though which made one hell of a difference. Certainly you can put the willies up BMW M3s under braking and through the corners but you don\'t have to oomph to get passed them on the straights. New Engine inbound to help with that and coilovers should help with the corners. I\'m off for a North Weald day in April then a couple of trackdays in the summer to fine tune my set up. Then possible Supercharger in bound before the end of the year!
