Title: Zero compression ?
Post by: Sy. on February 12, 2009, 05:14:51 PM
Hi all ..

I sold my car to some lovely guys from Europe and he emailed me today with this ..

Drove it home all ok and a bit more and tried to start the car on sunday but nothing. Engine was rotating, but it didnt started. So, he took the car to specialist and they discovered, that engine\'s compression is almost zero.

Does this sound right ? and can anyone suggest anything just to help them out ?

Wll my FD drove to a garage to have a boost leak fixed, got a call an hour later saying that the engine had gone, it was like it had run out of petrol. But they did a comp test and it was zero on all 3 faces on both rotors. So I guess it is entirely possible that this has happened, bad luck for them tho. Sounds like you could have sold at the right time. But it you are anything like me that wont help you feel any better. hope they understand if it does need a rebuild.

zero on all three faces on both rotors??  I\'m not even sure how you do that without taking all four spark plugs out..!!

possibly not on all three faces. I was told zero on both rotors then ;)

if they have taken both plugs out on each housing - then it wont\' get any compression - you should only remove 1 plug from front / one from back and then with EGI fuse out, apply full throttle (to let plenty air in) and crank baby, crank !

Even a blown engine should have some compression once it starts spinning - unless it\'s got a massive hole in it somewhere.

I have never done a comp test, I was told this back in 2004 by mister hayward.

The car was Spot on when i sold it and i really wish i hadnt . it had only done 5k miles from rebuild and was Tuned and tweek only 6 months before so i know it was completly 110% when i sold it ... Im sure they have done somethign silly with it or taken it to someone who doesnt know how to do it properly ...

i was more wondering if you "MRC" can suggest anything to help them out with finding a possible fault . Sorry to say but im not really 100% on what zero or low compression means ? what has worn out to get zero compression ?

I would ask them to describe exactly how they did the compression test, then take it form there.  (Why not get them to sign up to the forum - we can do it direct then? :))
