Title: Confused, but not dot com!
Post by: jetpilot on February 12, 2009, 01:38:27 PM
Starting to get real stressed with phoning companies to get silly quotes. Was paying £450 ish last year but closest so far this year is £750 ish. Tried sky, adrian flux, performance direct. Anyone got some good recommendations for a modded RX, roughly 400 hp, 38 yrs old, full no claims on daily driver, half roll cage seems to be a stumbling block.

i have heard that alot of insurance companies do not like roll cages as apparantly it makes the driver think they are invincible.  I spoke to Ollie at sky as he is the club contact and i run my own club, he was very helpful and said they do not worry too much about rol cages but ive learnt one thing they do particuarly want on a FD is a alarm and i didnt have one so they wouldnt quote me

Fully Comp Just renewed with AON last I paid 780 with all mods declared including my power, this year £650 which is pretty good as I live just outside London 37yo, but you do need a normal car as a day to day driver

Try A-Plan. They were pretty much the same price as Sky for me so might be worth a try.

Got a cat 1, sky were also £700 +
AON wont insure anymore as they have changed to Footman James and they declined the car, although they insured it last year, nothings really changed in that year! Its just mad at 38 yrs old (me not the car gsb, lol) they want £750!!!!

Jetpilot.. we should be competitive on this, I\'d like to have a look at your details.. 38 year old + Dorset postcode + full NCB should = a very good price.

Would you mind emailing me your full name, postcode and phone number to: ollief@skyinsurance.co.uk (ollief@skyinsurance.co.uk)

Get outta here, i just spoke to them again and they said they wont insure it because of all the mods on a classic policy and its not old enough, Also wont insure it on a modern policy because of the roll cage!!!!!!!!

Im running less Hp than you, insurance, its f*cked up!

yep it is fducked up, been with Aon for three years now on the "modern classic policy" with all the mods declared I even sent them a dyno graph confirming the power I run on the road at 450 rwhp.
I even have the option on my policy that they will cover me for track days for an additional amount on an adhoc basis if I notify them first of the event I wish to attend. So things like the Fduk track day where stickers crashed I would be covered if I pay extra for the day. A lot of insurers wont give track day cover for additional amount anymore.
So far Aon have been pretty good to me. So it sounds like a post code lottery.
I do have to have it garaged at my home address and a immboliser/alarm.

Mines a 94 model by the way

Seems like its the "roll cage" that appears to be the problem with them as thats whats they said re modern classic policy. Oh well, Sky have helped though, very good.

It gets weirder, tried Heritage who apparently insure a tripple rotor member from here, but wont touch mine as the HP is too big a difference from standard.

However Aplan have come back at under £500, pretty impressive. Only prob with that is i will need to use my no claims from my daily driver and then they will mirror it, but it means cancelling my daily driver which ive just renewed.

No claims, how crazy is it, that the no claims is with a certain vehicle. If i have been claim free for 5+ years, surely its me whos been driving, shouldnt the no claims be with me, not the actual car??? Ok, i understand that if i insure 2 cars, they both have the possibilty of being knicked, but its not like i can drive both at once and surely i am the one that is responsible for building the no claims, not the current vehicle.

Well now go back to Sky with your quote from APlan. ;)

Sky price match with me this year as I got a better quote from APlan.

Have you tried Sureterm Direct?

They\'re usually pretty good too for mods. Never tried a roll cage with them though...
