Title: Compression tube
Post by: TiddlesRX7 on February 11, 2009, 07:43:00 PM
Does anyone have one they could lend me? I\'m thinking of trying to make my own but could do with one to get some measurements from. Cheers

I would do, but im using mine lol sorry! Can you not ask a seller to get some measurements? I know RHD japan do them, and they are always helpful.

Doubt it. They\'d have nothing to gain from giving me the measurements.

I might have a spare standard one you could cut up like most of the Jap tuners do. Bit of cutting here, welding there, chuck a couple of injectors in there as well!!!  see its easy to make your own.

That might work Pete. Idealy though I would like a bigger one to copy. I\'ll have a stock one on my other engine thinking about it. I could get the flange sizes off that.

This sort of thing. It doesn\'t have to be Greddy any brand will do really.

bloody hell - i get some grief on here

errr i bought it along with some poly bushes - think it was about £60 or summat like that ???

is there any meets soon , as i have to admit i cant be bothered to post it - unless you fancy driving miles and collecting it :D

or i can take measurements if you want ( again this means finding the thing aswell )

what i did find was a dual alt pulley though :D - can you copy this ?

Maybe. I\'ll pop down maybe at the weekend bud. Or if you dig both items out then I\'ll see what I can do. Give me a buzz or a text when you\'ve dug them out or are gonna dig them out and I\'ll see about coming down.

so you think you can duplicate them ???

let me have a nosey around the garage and see what i can find

a quick check - town centre of kendal to mine is about 60 miles ( 1 hr ) - is it worth driving that far ?????

I\'ll give me an excuse to take a drive in my (very unatractive at the moment) Rex, so I\'m not too bothered about coming down for it. Thinking about it I need to see a lad in Morecambe about a dual alternator pulley anyway so I\'ll stop by him aon the way too.
The pulleys should be easy enough to make on a Lathe. Its just the V\'s where the belts run that\'ll be a bit tricky. But if I make up a tool for it then it should be easy. As for the compression tubes, I\'m not sure how easily it will be I\'m just tempted to have a go at it first as they go for stupid money. If I can\'t make one then I\'ve lost nothing but my own time.

If you are making a copy of the Greddy compression tube, it might be an idea to move the temperature sensor location as its hard to get to when installed :)

Good point - if your keeping the bracket on the engine - the temp sensor fouls the bracket - it needs to be moved about 1/2" towards the narrower end of the tube.

Put the boxes out in the snow and sell them on Ebay as mystery items!

I\'ll look into relocating the temp sensor on the tube. Cheers for the heads up.
