Title: Aircon removal...
Post by: Jim_rx7 on February 09, 2009, 11:41:24 PM
Is there a guide anywhere?

Done a bit of searching and couldn\'t find much.

Obviously I get a different belt and remove the pump. But what about the rest?

If it\'s still gassed up you will need to get it degassed as it\'s illegal to dump the gas to atmosphere...

If it\'s empty, as mine was, i just undid the pipes from the bulkhead and ripped everything from there out including the condenser ratdiator and pump.  I left the coil in the car as this was far too much hard work lol

I\'ve disconnected the pipes from the aircon pump when I removed the engine, so I assume there\'s no gas in them now?? lol.

Should be safe to take them out?

main reason to save weight

Yep, to save weight, to junk the aircon condensor to improve airflow to the radiator / make space for a bigger radiator, FMIC, V-mount etc.

And also cos it\'s a pain trying to get them regassed due to the gas being illegal and a drop in replacement hard to get hold of on the older models, likely to have leaks so last about 5 mins and well a bit pointless really lol....

Does make a big difference to cooling the car getting rid of the condenser radiator....

I regret ditching mine - however I did it so I could fit a DIY V-mount.
I didn\'t see it as worth the hassle redoing all the piping for a weekend car.
