Title: Hand Brake!
Post by: DMDRIFTING on February 09, 2009, 09:28:11 PM
Is there any sure way of improving the effectiveness of the handbrake on the rx7 FD3S? Without changing the unit for Hydraulic?

Many thanks

Hey fella hope your well,

they just don\'t seem to bite like they should, have tightened up too, might need the pads bedding in, only want it to lock up the rears like a shift lock??

Have you tried lifting weights? Then you\'d be able to pull the handle really hard!

As you mentioned about the bedding in then if these are new ones then definately bed them in first, especially if they are not new disks as well. Apart from that just allow the usual 3 clicks before they engage and that they actually hold the back wheels still when using the adjuster.

They are a complete bag of sh*t mate. You wont be able to make the FD oem handbrake effective for drifting, you deffo need a hydraulic and once you\'ve got one you\'ll never want to go back! Apart from the obvious extra handbrake they are pretty unobtrusive to fit, you just T into the brake lines and bring them in through a hole in the back or front.

Its just false economy IMO. Sticky pads will help for slow stuff, narrow tyres, or when the rear is light anyhow but it wont be long before you come unstuck and wish you got a hydro, probably as you\'re flying towards some armco!
