I have a semi-poorly FD!
After the car has warmed up to normal operating temperature, the boost gauge indicates the correct boost (~.7 bar). After a very short time (Perhaps when the engine and components have heat soaked) the boost rarely goes over 0.5 bar on the first turbo, and therefore it\'s unlikely that the second turbo is coming online (2nd turbo comes on at 8psi(?) and therefore 0.5 bar equates to approx 7psi). If I switch the engine off as I\'m travelling along, and then immediately switch it back on and bump start it, the boost will come back to 0.7 bar, but then almost imediately drops back down to 0.5 bar.
Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions that I could check!? I was thinking maybe the pre-control solenoid, being just about the only one that controls the boost level while only the first turbo is boosting (Unless I have that wrong!!)
mine sits at 0.5 bar through the first and second turbo.. been told that is stock? got stock ecu in mine..how bout u?

Did that many years ago and blew the exhaust off - the engine pumped fuel down the exhaust while being \'off\' then ignited it on restart.
I guess with modern engines that doesn\'t happen anymore.
One hell of a bang - I was only 17 - an expensive lesson :rollin
Ouch!
Well, done it few times now on the Rex and haven\'t had a problem. I always make sure my foot is off the accelerator pedal!

Mine is pretty much stock. Just got big bore exhaust and induction kit.
It\'s not on transistion at this point. This is at anything below 4000 rpm. It just won\'t go above 0.5 bar. The easiest example is say, me travelling down the motorway, cruising at a nice leisurely pace in 5th, and then stick my foot down on the pedal (Not the brake! :p ) and the boost gauge just sits itself quite happily on 0.5! Not fair!..... This is when I get told it\'s meant to!! ;)
It should hit about 0.7 bar in stock trim.
It could be a dead cat if you still have it on the car. That would restrict exhaust flow and slow down the turbo.
Surely it can\'t be that, cos initially it does hit 0.7 - and I can get it to hit 0.7 if I bump start after it has been hitting the 0.5
mine does the same matey on the stock ecu, got a kakimoto r and hks induction... had it dyno\'d and it pulls exactly stock bhp and has correct fueling on it... think i\'m gonna wack and apexi ecu in there and up the boost a little sometime
I thought you were having various boost problems of late possibly relating to the cat.
You are correct. The stock twins require at least 8psi in order for the transition to hapen. If you aren\'t making 8psi then the chances are you are getting no secondary.
My boost is broken also, i think it is the vac hoses so i\'m getting those changed you should do the same.
I\'ve had an experience twice in the past where i\'ve had to slow down and kinda been at 4k revs accelerating slowly and then try to floor it to be presented with a lot of spooling sound and then the wastegate from hell noise happens :)
like I say only happened a couple of times though 99% normal other than that... i\'ve put it down to engine temp
think we should have a day at reworx us boosty people hehe
"solve ya boost day" ;)
what\'s the deal with dead cats? do they just go and you suffer loss or are there any tell tale signs?
if we go to CPL i can have an install your NOS day!
haha where\'s cpl? :)
and are they any good? never heard of them
Sheerness, Kent - thats where geff from RE worx mapped my car on the rolling road not sure if they do general rx7 work. I\'m hopefully installing some NOS, trying to get a deal if i advertise on my car with a local company but if i dont succed then i will contact CPL.
good idea dude
as for the boost, i\'m gonna replace the plugs and ht leads this long weekend, as it\'s just hit me, they\'ve probably been in there for about.. oooooo 9000 miles now
I had my plugs and leads changed didnt effect the boost but then mine was overboosting at the time! Mine was misfiring until i changed the leads and plugs.
Having not had a CAT on my car since I bought it I only know what I have been told by someone who killed there CAT.
Once up to temp you will have problems generating boost a higher RPM.
I have finally cracked my boost problem after a long and painful search. I would have taken it to a specialist but they are thin on the ground in Scotland. Also I was curious as I want to know how this wonderful car works.
Slwly getting there.......or should that be \'getting there faster now it\'s fixed\'
so what was the boost issue???
