1st question...is the \'halfords brand\' filter ok or should i be looking for some other brand?suggestions? and what type of oil should i use?

2nd question..spark plugs?what type?where from?

and finally..

yo
halfords normally stock champion oil filters which are part number F129, i\'ve always use these on mine and change my oil and filter every 1000 miles! some would say this is pointless but i\'m justa clean oil freak! i\'ve always been advised to use shell helix plus too, which you can get from most shell garages! my cars done 46,000 now and it still has exellent compression and has never flooded on me, i dunno if this is down to my regular servicing but it does give you peace of mind!
hope this helps:) :wave

Hi Marc

The Halfords filter should be okay... I still find it easier to get them from a Mazda Dealer itself.

Oil.... I run castrol 10 w 40 ......make sure it is mineral oil only. No semi synth or magnatec.....MINERAL ONLY. Unless youy are willing to buy the rotary special synthetic formula.
I know robbie is running 15w40 mineral.... I tried it....I fact I think thats what I am running at the moment.

Spark Plugs should be NGK BUR9EQP.... If you find them up here give me a shout. (Possibly also mazda dealer)

Piston and Components on Great Western Road should be able to sort out the pads for you. Ask for kenny. I have been told green stuff ain\'t all that great. I have a set waiting to go on to the car soon aswell. But Kenny said he would swap them for the new RED STUFF which is a semi Ceramic racing compound.

In fact kenny could probably sort out most of the stuff you would need. He is a scooby driver but is still a nice guy;)

I suppose I should get a service done for Crail aswell...... and possibly a few other things.

Ket me know how you get on with the bits and bobs.

My last service at THE GARAGE was quite reasonable. But don\'t let them use an Engine Flush on your car Is it caused me loads of grief.

ps, i really don\'t think greenstuffs are up to the job!
i run redstuffs and i don\'t really rate them! got mine from sumo, they set me back about £130 ish for all four corners and weren\'t that hard to fit! i think feredo pads r rated well (excuse the spelling)!:)

...great western road it is!!So basically I\'m looking for red stuff brake pads, NGK BUR9EQP spark plugs and castrol 10 w 40 mineral oil....easy as that and a champion oil filter!

Cheers guys.

I think alot of people use Mintex pads.... have a wee search on the forum and see what folk recommend.

I think hawk are well thought of and have various compounds to choose from also. You will have to put a bit of heat into the red stuff to get them working at their best.

BUR9EQP....platinum which is standard

Give them a call
I might be up that way tomorrow. If I get a chance I will pop in and see.

cheers...

...i found a thread about the spark plugs and there seems to be some debate over what 2use...7\'s or 9\'s or both or 11.5\'s..it\'s all very confusing..i have no current issue with starting/flooding and all this conflict about the plugs has me \'fillin my pants\' to be quite honest!!!

If your down that way you could check piston place out..cheers!!sent an email away to //www.spark-plugs.co.uk for some advice...

I\'ll try myself on Thursday...

95% of all FDs in the UK are running 9s all around with very little problem. Its should be 7s leading and 9s trailing by the book but a) 7\'s can be hard to get hold of and often have a premuim on them. I\'d go for 9\'s all around as they are cheap and can thus be changed VERY regularly, which Rotors like...

Colder than 9\'s is overkill unless you are running more boost and may cause starting problems according to some. I\'ve had this but it couldve been circumstantial I guess. Cold plugs do make a big difference when running more boost though. Oh, and they cost two or three times as much as \'normal\' plugs.

If you have a trouble locating them up there give Geff/RE:Worx a buzz. He always carries hundreds and will stick 4x BUR9EQPs in the post to you overnight for about £35-36 from recollection...

What plugs do u use in yours Mark?

I recall Scoot on FDUK said that up north halfrauds charged him more like £15/plug for BUR9EQPs recently?!?

Hi Marc,

Please DO NOT put anything EBC on your car as l have seen horrendous consequences with EBC on RX-7\'s!!.

A good combination is Hawk HT10 (front) and Hawk HP+ for the rear, this will provide excellent road and track day use for your car.

Rich

Off the top of my head can\'t remember, will check but have just thought the £9.49 a plug was for the NGK plug for a 12a (the other project!!) can\'t for the life of me remember the code pretty sure it was a 9 though

If you are getting the service done at The Garage then they can get plugs (9\'s) for you no probs along with oil filter, sump plug and oil (not the air filter though), if not Pentland Components in Edinburgh will have the plugs laying around - e-mail me if you want e-mail contact info (I\'ve known Rich for a few years - he is another scooby owner, albeit only for another few weeks).
Can\'t remember for sure if he said he could get replacement pads for the FD, but think he could, I\'ll have the e-mail at work saying one way or the other.

BTW, if you are doing it yourself remember to get a new sump plug.

alright guys...

any idea\'s where i\'d get these pads from \'Hawk HT10 (front) and Hawk HP+ for the rear\'???

I\'ve had a reply as well from \'sparkplug technical department\'.........

\'The plugs you have reference to are suitable for the RX-7 twin turbo. NGK UK (and I think Mazda UK) recommend using BUR9EQP for all chambers purely because it\'s possible that the DIY mechanic may install them the wrong way round which could have disasterous results. There is very little negative effect in fitting BUR9EQP all round but we are aware that many RX7 owners prefer to keep factory spec which is why we have mede BUR7EQP available.\'

Robbie you mentioned new sump plug, any ideas where from??

Hawks = //www.shyauto.com

Plugs = they say 9s \'cause any muppet can get hold of em whereas 7\'s can be a challenge.

Sump plug = Mazda Dealer (50p ish)

I got my Hawks from Shy, there is somewhere else that does them, but their name escapes me and the prices are within pennies of one another.

Yup - oil is the only thing cheap about owning an RX-7...

yeah just to add presume Clives description is same thing but ensure it\'s the mineral oil version of GTX not the magnatec or wotever stuff.

I\'ve been making a note of parts and contact, but wondered if anybody can direct me to a useful guide/link for 6,000 mile service that a mechanic would find useful.  I don\'t want to DIY, but want to take my car to a good local mechanic I\'ve trusted for years who hasn\'t seen a twin turbo Rx7 before.  Mine is a standard UK spec 1995 model.

Any thoughts??
Cheers, Paul

try //www.iluvmyrx7.com full service manuals, wiring diags and all sorts. they are v big files though (the service manual on the 84 gen 1 is 478 pages, so it may take some time to print!!!
