Title: First Gen, Series 2....Sunroof
Post by: Baz-7 on February 05, 2009, 12:52:59 AM
I\'ve seen a few with a glass sunroof panel fitted....Most recently the gold resto project that was for sale on Ebay....Can anyone tell me: Would the glass panel be a direct replacement for the steel jobbie on my car?

Mine is starting to rust, and is also dented....Replacing it with a glass panel would be much easier than repairing it....Looks nicer too IMO! :D

Yes - the glass panel was available from new and just swaps over :)

That\'s what I assumed, but thanks for confirming it for me! :D

I think so but don\'t know for certain.
I\'m after a glass one as well as Baz.

I thought they were fibreglass panels? Got an old Silver one if you want it but it\'s a bit battered and probably more work than your white one.

These two item numbers from ebay may be of interest to both of you. I would also check the other items he has for sale I think he has 2 glass & 2 steel sunroofs.

Ooh, thanks! :D

I\'ve sent him a message asking if I bought the one with the fixings attached, and paid via Paypal, whether he\'d keep it for me for a week or two, until I could get down there and collect....If he agrees, I\'ll have a punt at it!

What\'s up with you guys? On this site while I\'m asleep. (Don\'t get up til 09:30).
Still think the standard roof is fibreglass. (Mine is - just pulled it out)
As Shaun. Insured carriage on the glass roofs would make this guy some money.

The roof on mine is definitely steel....The dents and rust will attest to that! :(

Looking at his Q&A, this seller doesn\'t seem to wanna get involved with P&P....If I win it, I\'ll make a day of it, and go on a collection mission....Probably take my dad along for the ride.

I\'ll check out that battered silver one this weekend. (It\'s in the loft). I think it\'s got some fittings.

Ahh fer chrissake....Put in what I thought was a healthy bid on the glass sunroof, but somebody richer than me got it....I\'m struggling at the moment....Nothing encouraging is happening concerning the RX-7....Don\'t be surprised to see the car back on Ebay as a "Spares or repair"....Think I\'ll concentrate on my MX-5....:(

I didn\'t bid. Was it £92 PLUS (at a guess) £30carriage? That was getting too much even for my deep pockets. Plus the fittings would need cleaning up quite a lot.
The other had no fittings at all and didn\'t fancy buying it then trying to find suitable stainless or chromed fixing screws and rubber washers for securing through the glass.

Yes Mark, fittings are on the one in the loft. Bit rusty on the front fingers but they\'ll paint up OK. Noticed they\'re marked \'R\' and \'L\' . Interesting. I\'ll bet not many people know that! Do you want to PM me with an address and I\'ll remove them and post in a Jiffy Bag.
You owe me a beer sometime.
