Title: Help! Freekin\' Flooded!
Post by: Highside on March 09, 2003, 04:41:28 PM
Afternoon Gents,

Im afraid I need your knowhow again fellas!

After I raced at Silverstone last month (did OK by the way - 4th in class - full race report to follow when I get two seconds!), I droped the car off round at the paint sprayers and flew off on a Business Trip to Europe for a couple of weeks.

A friend of mine picked the car up, brought it home and parked it in the garage - turned it off nice and warm and everything was running fine.

Another mate then when\'t to move my car as he needed to use my garage to fit his girlfriends exhaust.  However, it wouldn\'t start, and in attempting to get it to fire, he inadvertantly flooded it.

Being a good lad and having been boared to death by me about Rotorys, he poped out the plugs, removed the EGI fuse and cranked it over to clear the chamber.  He then poped the plugs back in and tryed to start it - but no joy.

A week later and I\'m back, and I have spent the whole of my sunday trying to get it started (missed the GP replay!), but basicaly doing teh exact same thing as Colin did, but I have been putting the plugs in teh oven to dry them out, but still no luck.

Has anyone got any suggestions?  I begining to think there might be somthing else amiss :(

Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

Oh - if It helps the car is an 89 TII.

Cheers

High (but none too dry) Side

Hi ,

A friend of mine spent most of a day like you and haveing done the same i.e. pull the fuse clean it out etc new battery ( as Rotary\'s like a real good battery)  ,  l talked him into \'bumping\' it, i.e tow it down the road in gear and it started within like 4 or 5 foot !!

Hope this helps.

All the Best Clive

Highside!

How are you?

Sorry I couldn\'t make it along to Silverstone, been a little busy the last few weeks with the little fella and family over from Oz.

Looking forward to reading up your race report - you get any photo\'s?

What spark plugs do you have in your car?  have you tried squirting a little engine oil in the spark plug holes, turning over a few times by hand, put the plugs back in then try and start?  The engine oil helps with the compression, as when the engine gets flooded it washes away the oil which helps form a better seal.

Cheers Clive & Glen,

I\'ll try the oil in the plug hole trick first, and if all else fails I will try and bump start it.  Whichever way works, I\'ll post up the results.  Wish me luck....

Happy Racing

Hello,

Highside, Have you done the Usal stuff (check spark,Fuel there,Clean plugs etc)? Checking the Fuel is easy as the design of the Rotary is not like a Piston the Engine will Suck Fuel air in with the Plugs removed so it will blow Fuel air out of the Plug hole when turned over with no plugs in (hence the removel of the Fuel pump fuse).

If so i sugest you do a quick Comp test then Drag it round the Block like Clive sugests.

I had a T2 that was down on Comp and i thought Doing the ATF Trick would help get it, Urm what i did is Classic NO NO! i put a tea spoon of oil in each Rotor Bath and then i spent three days trying to get it to start. What happened is the Oil Fouled the Plugs up every time the Apex went over them so it would fire once and stop, of course with it not having 100% Compresion it was a Nightmare.

Funny thing is i got it toed and fired first time (the car and most of the Street vanished in smoke).
