Hello guys
New question on what looks best on a REX.
My RX7 has been de winged and hand the wiper removed etc. I love the look but im getting allot of hassle from those who think a \'drift\' spoiler will look better.
I am also going to get a bonnet much like the scoot one for my car.
Im thinking striped out will look great with that bonnet and feed skirts?
Opinions

(only pic of my car i have on my laptop so not of the back but you get the jist , also didnt know how to post the pic so uploaded to my server)
Thanks
Subtle skirts something like the RE Amemiya AD D-2 with the rear spats to match and leave the wing off.
Anything but the extremely large gt wing\'s that seem to be landing on every japanese car up and down the country.
GT wing\'s are for the track and not for street cars imo
hmm, i think cars with the 99 spec frontbumper + splitter need wings, they just suit the rest of the car more. How about a nice 99 spec rear wing?
Hmm thanks for all the imputs guys keep them coming lol im really not sure about this one and i wanna be sure before i throw more money at the car. lol
oh, one thing for definate, if you don\'t have a spoiler you NEED a rear diffuser :D
a pic of a FD without a wing from the front and side looks good, but the rear shot of a FD without a wing looks not so good.
Try to get someone to photoshop a wing on and see what you think ??? :yes
Put a wing on it but make sure it\'s high, I mean as high as the roof, GT style wings that you know aren\'t even in the air flow are stupid. Go GT: high as the roof and as wide as the rear arches.
I prefer them with a wong on the back. I can look ok for soem angels wingless but most of the time you look at it and think there\'s something missing, just to help complement the lines of the car.
Try find a 99 spec standard onw as these are one of the best looking and more sublte if you dont like big GT style wings
Adam
Could get light in the rear end at high speed. Even the stock wing helps at 200kph+ or as said before use a rear difuser to create down force.
Here is a pic of what I use. Its a custom copy of the 99spec. I dont like the fat bits of the 99spec that sit on the boot lid so mine has those parts cut out. I race my car often and reach speeds of 270kph+ and this wing gives plenty of down force...car is very stable.
Theres a few different views for you to get the best aspect of how it looks.
I think smooth is the way to go with your current level of styling, or even a low-level RX7 specific wing.
If you go down the large rear wing route make sure its a quality, non universal part, or itll ruin the styling.
Just my 2p :)
Chris
No Wing!!
If you get a wing you need a diffuser... thats for sure..
And if the car is done right the GT wing looks amazing...
If your car is butt standard then you obviously can\'t get a wing...
Also depends how fast you drive... if you drive fast then you need a wing as has been said at high speed the back feels less stable
No wing and diffuser (who says that doesn\'t look good)

96-98 OEM rear wing, seen one of these painted black on a silver car and you could hardly see it.

Well Im thinking now keep the wing off as i think the standard wing is dated and gt wings look a little chavey unless they have a real working purpose.
I really do need a diffuser though as in not as stable as i would like top end, let me know if any for sale.
The car is getting the scoot bonnet for sure and some skirts, not sure what skirts though? What ones are on your cars pics Dr-Rotor they look nice!
is there anyone with the scoot style bonnet and wingless?
Cheers guys

But would you stay wingless with a scoot style bonnet on the car?

My side skirts are RE-Amemiya AD9 i think they were called. Probly not the same as todays AD9 style though cos these ones are not made anymore. The rear caps are a match to the sides. I like diffusers but I dont need one....would be a little over kill with all the body mods I have, so less is more.
When I chose the kit for my car I wanted something smooth to keep the water flowing over rocks effect. My idea was to create an RX7 that looked like a pumped up version from mazda. Like a special edition or something.

I have a friend that has a setup like that...Looks nice. Alot of my friends have no wing on their cars. In fact there are alot of FD\'s in NZ that have no wings. If they do have a wing it normaly stock or something that fits the kit.
Wingless looks quite cool, especially on a white or black car, in my humble opinion...now for the contentious part.....
***deep breath***
leave it out with the Scoot (copy) bonnet, it\'s been done to death. Everyone and their Max Power-reading dog have a Scoot-alike bonnet nowadays :Giggle. Do something else.

HAHAHAHA.....no need to duck and hide. Everyone has different taste. I look at it this way. When veryone has a stock car, they all look the same but some have personal little touches. When alot of cars have the same bonnet it dose not bother me because the rest of the body mods are completely different. This is the reason why I had my Feed bumper modified to my needs instead of just putting it on. I had the main intake inlarged and the side vents molded closed to match the skirts.
Have you seen the FEED bonnet! Gonna be expensive mind, but would look nice with or without a rear wing!
Should have got a FC :D

Heres a good shot that shows how the skirts seem to make the car look wider and more agressive yet still smooth. Sorry I hi-jaked your thread. I wont post anymore pics.

its not mine, but I have the only rear spoiler in the country in my garage lol
As for the FD I would think that a small suble curved wing would be best, something like this:

Just so that is flows with the lines of the car :)

Hey Gary this ones just for you buddy, I noticed your signature says FEED me!, so you must be a huge fan. I know my car is not all FEED but this is what I used to have on it for a little while, you may like it you may not.

Haha...bloody good effort. Good man.
As for the wings you posted, Yea I agree. Those are nice wings. The Veilside fortune style isent bad either if it came in a smaller version to fit the stock arches.
Sorry my mistake. They still make my side skirts.

Ok when you click the link it should come up with some english wrighting. In the squares it should read in order like this....FC3S FD3S RX8
Click FD3S
Then you should be taken to this page described below.
If you see a page that has the heading Parts/List FD3S and a line of boxes below with jap wrighting then click the first box on the left. That will take you to pictures and give you the price of all the parts in Yen. With these jap pages you just have to click around untill you find what you want.
GT wings look chavy on chavy cars...
A rex is not a chavy car so a gt wing looks good... but it has to flow with what you have going on on the exterior of your car... you cant have it stock and have a gt wing... it doesn\'t look right...
some of the best looking cars from japan have gt wings and i know people drool over them... so gt wing is not chavy just chavy on chavy cars :p
fd ash please sell me your feed spoiler:InLove
Dr rotor car looks gorgeous in white,my track car will be mercedies(sp) white very soon:Thumbsup!:mmmm

Thank you.
This is a good question. Both of them look very good indeed. But i think i\'ll go for the 99 spec rear wing.
Yeah! Late-spec wing FTW!
I think the car just needs something. The big wings are just not right for the car. Take a look at the 98 type RZ wing. It is like a small whales tail. I think that type look good. Anyway keep us posted as to what you decide.
Dr-rotor,
What fenders and front bumper do you have?
Looks reallly nice :Thumbsup!
R-magic fenders and custom Feed front.

...if your RX is for cruising around the ice cream shop and impressing the ladies, the you don\'t need a rear wing.
If you use your RX-7 for what it\'s made for (going fast on street/highways, or some quartermiles) then it\'s impossible to drive it hard without a wing and stay dry in your pants. The RX need downforce, as without any diffusors/wings he is very light at high speeds, i would never go without. The standard wing has improved over the years, so the \'99Spec is a very good option, andlooks nice, too.
Higher rear wings can improve that downforce as good as diffusors, but that depends on where you use the car... :)
^^^^^ ((why would you need a wing for the 1/4 mile unless you\'ve over 1000 hp, and crossing the line at over 300mph...??))
IF you\'re using the car for track use, then totally agree. It\'ll only start to come into it\'s own at higher speeds, and those are the kind of speeds on the road that you shouldn\'t be doing, imho. Even if you\'re \'driving enthusiastically\', you shouldn\'t be cornering at anywhere NEAR the kind of speeds where the downforce of any wing will start to make a difference. On the motorway at over a ton, the downforce will do little more than drag, as there are NO bends of significance. If you\'re going down a country lane at below 80, the wing really won\'t make a difference (other than drag again). So on 99% of road legal RX7\'s it\'s a pointless appendage with as much impact as a greddy sticker on the side.
...imho.
...yeah, you\'re right.
...but i\'ve heard from people with S14\'s driving on our highways will make a difference from 200km/h and above. The RX-7 has less downforce on the rear than an S14, because of his sloping rear, i hope you know what i mean.
And, trust me, in our area (Berlin and around) we\'re driving fast often, most of our Autobahn in this area is unlimited... :D
So, thats what i want to say. In germany you\'re kind of pussy when you have a high powered car and no wing, because anybody knows that you\'re not driving hard, hahaha... ;)
^^^sorry, I didn\'t see the Germany bit... And you have the best track days. But round hampshire, a wing is definitely a decoration!!
i think its probably one of the best looking rx7\'s anywhere.....pretty much spolierless asdies from that lip.....

love the combination of that boot lip and diffuser.
I love my 99 spec rear wing

That diffuser in the pics Gyles posted up is, IMHO, the only one that doesn\'t look totally awful on an FD. Every other one looks like a random bent bit of plastic tat tacked on as an afterthought, whereas the early model Amemiya one looks like it was actually designed to intergrate with the lines of the car, and thus actually looks like it should be there, not like the car\'s run over some roofing sheets in the road and got them stuck under the rear end....
Won\'t expect anyone else to agree with my inane rantings, but that\'s my 2ps worth :)
tend to agree with Nik, although this one (the Shine car I was thinking about above) looks seriously sexy:
im thinking of that diffuser for mine. ive got a 99spec rex and i think that would go pretty well..... its very simple and like you say, keeps the line of the car.....
Quote from: metalCORE;585346...yeah, you\'re right.

Well i know my Rex gets a little twitchy at high speed but i think a diffuser will sort that out. i think im gonna stay wingless as i looks nice on my car and i dont want to end up looking like a tit with a massive great dirty drift spoiler if i only track the car once a year. lol
Still hoping to add a the scoot style bonnet and some nice sideskirts (hopfully same as dr rotors if i can find them.

Sorry to bring a dead thread up... Does anyone know what that spoiler is called? and where i can get it from.
Thanks
shineauto developments. i do believe rotaryart can get them as well and i think its just called a lip spoiler. only comes in carbon also so is a bit pricey!
thank you :D
You can also get them direct from shineauto in frp or carbon and on their site its called the low-level lip spoiler.
Pretty sure rhdJapan can supply them with a uk delivered price too but i think direct from suppliers will be cheapest and the guys at shine auto seemed like top people to me
not really been reading much of this thread but have used autoshine from the states and they very good to deal with, fairly quick reply from emails and they always try to please :)
