Title: How do you evenly set coilover heights front and back?
Post by: Jimi_Hendrix on January 25, 2009, 03:12:12 PM
I fitted my JIC Magic coilovers today and just need to set the heights to be equal all round.

I\'ve set the back ones at the lowest height and evened them up. Its prety easy to set them from side to side as you just measure the distance of the rings between bottom of shock and spring on either side. But how do you get the same height at the front because the front shocks and the back shocks are different in structure and design so that same trick wont work.

Any advise? Thanks guys:)

measure from the top/center of the wheel arch, front + back :D

Even if it is only 1/2" you need the back a little higher than the front otherwise it can lead to aerodynamic instability.

This may help your predicament as you may find you need to bring the back up a little

Without getting into corner weighting, this is how I do it and if I have the driver avaliable I sit him in the car so the car sits even with the driver on board.

ha ha, hadn\'t even thought of that! Lol. I need something that weighs 9 stone then! (Yes 9 stone! All of it muscle!:evillaugh)

Some of my other wheels thrown in the drivers side ought to suffice!

didn\'t know about needing it a tad higher at the back either! Thanks for that! I\'ll go and try squaring them up now, thanks for the speedy help guys! :Thumbs-up

Measure from the center of the wheel to the wheel arch, saves any calculation for uneven tyre pressures and side wall deflection.

Cool, another question I needed answered before I put my FC on the road..
Its sitting way too high on Fightex coilovers so will be dropping her down this week hopefully:yes

Yes and also have at least half a tank of petrol in there too.

As Clive says you need to have a slight rake in the way the car sits....and don\'t go down to B&Q to buy a rake!  It will allow the air that goes under the car to slow down and join the air behind minimising the amount of drag on the car.

not meaning to take the pee mate but when i have a big wing fitted and travel quiet fast i would guess the down force pushes the back of the car down by more than 1/2 and inch so what happens there then ???

If you are worried then you can always adjust the springs accordingly.  As you have seen our cars are running a full aero package, and as such wont really need the rear wing....that said we are still going to be running about the same poundage of springs.

I think Clive\'s point was mainly to add an extra 1/2" over an above the existing ride height to give it that raked look.  As well as helping with the air under the car, it also improves the anti dive on the car.
