Title: 1996 FD3S engine onto 1992 loom and Apexi Power fc!
Post by: DMDRIFTING on January 24, 2009, 09:57:25 PM
Hello,

just a quick post, how difficult would it be to run a 1996 FD3S Block on an FD3S with a 1992 Loom and Apexi Power Fc?

I understand the 1996 Engine and loom is 16bit, can the loom be discarded and just the block used very easily?

If you use your 92 spec loom then you can fit the engine without having to do any wiring mods, then you can keep your power fc etc. The only real difference is a few minor tweaks internally and a different mounting hole setup for the coil bracket.

This is what i would have thought, but just want to know it can be done, with no real drama, before i consider the option!

Is the coil mountings the only real mod needed? 1992 gear box, clutch, housing etc will mate as normal?

The coil mounting/rats nest mount is not a problem as you can still pick up on 2 of the 3 bolts, the gearbox clutch and everything else is the same.

Sounds good to me, would i use all the alternator etc from the 1992 engine so that the loom mates up? It confuses me what is actually different from the 8bit to 16 bit loom?
