Title: Apexi PFC set up for FC TII
Post by: TiddlesRX7 on January 21, 2009, 10:44:04 PM
Hi. I\'ve got myself an Apexi PFC for my FC TII. Now I\'ve done a bit of reading up about them and decided that I want a Pro to install and Map it (Iknow its mainly plug and play its more the mapping I\'m bothered about). I have the ECU, commander, MAP sensor but I was wondering if I need an air temp sensor and a wideband O2 sensor. I\'ve read conflicting views about it so any help would be appreciated.

Ade.

If your PFC is for an FD originally, then I think you need the FD Intake Air sensor, not sure if the PFC\'s for FC were designed to work with the stock IAT sensor or not.  Wideband O2 isn\'t a necessity - but it\'s a very worthwhile thing to have - and probably will be needed by the tuner in any case.

have u read the pfc tech section?
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/general/apeximanuals/PowerFC_FAQ.pdf
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/general/apeximanuals/RX7Tuning.pdf

what map sensor are you using?
from what i can make sense, a wideband o2 sensor is mainly used for tuning to see the air / fuel ratio.
its nt needed for day to day driving (mainly for mapping) but its more of a safety gauge as can show if ur running lean or rich.
[pls correct me if i have anything wrong] :D

on a side topic.. my fmic.. i told u about drilling holes.. on mine i had to have a smaller screen washer bottle fitted also. nbot sure if this is a must for other fmic.

Thats about what I thought. So the next question is where to get a wideband and how much are they? I\'m pretty sure the PFC i\'ve got is for the FC not the FD its an AP engineering one. Not sure on the make of the MAP sensor I will have to check.

You can get a Techedge,Innovate etc depending on the kit will cost you approx £200.

if its plug and play on the ECU connectors - then i would assume its for a FC ??

i assume the closest person to you is either pip or lindop

although once its mapped and tuned - can i have a ride please :D

if you search the 2nd gen forum for PFC there is a post of mine about getting the wiring adaptor - im sure on that site it tells you what you need to run a FD PFC in a FC ( i think you need the 2 bar boost sensor aswell )

with those, do you need to drill into the downpipe and put another plug there for the sensor?
or is there another place for fitting the sensor?

they normally come with bungs to weld into your exhaust pipe, would locate the the sensor halfway in your exhaust sytem not to near the downpipe as the sensor can break due to the intense heat of the rotary

I\'ve got mine in the down pipe, but about 12 inches from the turbo outlet.  Rotaries do run hot, but at that distance it should be within spec of the sensor.  It\'s been in there over a year without problems.

Sure can Stu anytime bud. And yeah I have emailed WGT and PM\'d Lindop about prices for installing and mapping the PFC once I am ready for it to go on the car.

All good advise peeps as always thankyou.

So excited! For u also... :)
Feels like a race to get pfc fitted. Would b gd to get dyno figure once mapped! Id b ....ed if i only get 50hp more than u wit my larger injectors n tub setup lol

I\'m not too bothered about getting it done quickly as long as its done right to be honest. Its gonna be next month at the earliest before I get it fitted. I\'ll be happy if I can get another 50bhp out of mine with just the pfc fitted. that\'d take me to 280bhp. But I think i\'ll get it mapped for 300bhp if possible. Gonna have to start looking at fueling mods next.

What sort of power can you run on stock injectors?

I got 318 BHP out of mine - with a terminal AFR of 12 - but that was getting close to the limit - 90 % Duty on the injectors.  I\'d say you could get your 300, but you\'ll need to be thinking about bigger injectors after that.

I\'d be happy at 300bhp @ 90% duty. will have to see what is possible when it\'s getting tuned.
