Title: Mot,emissions And Power Fc
Post by: MINTER on January 19, 2009, 09:06:45 PM
:confused:Was wondering does anyone have an idiots guide on how to make adjustments on the pfc for emissions on MOT
ive a 93 fd with silenced mid-pipe,air removal kit etc and im worrying about the test coming shortly..

i know there emissions canm be queit high ,ive had a very recent service with plugs ,leads oil and filter  changed but need to know how you work the pfc to get me past...

i  have the pfc manual but havent really a clue about any of the mapping etc.

this would obviously be a very temporary thing(changed it outside the test cente ,then change it back after)

any links or rough guides would be really appreciated!!

Ciaran.:)

Title: lowering for mot
Post by: Eddie on January 19, 2009, 09:59:09 PM
I did a little research on this and found the following info:
heres the mail i found
MOT\'d mine on Saturday and asked the blokey to give me a shout before doing the emissions as I\'d need
to tweak the ECU (which he was okay with).

As standard CO2 was running ~16 and needed to be 3 to pass...

To do this go to Settings->Ign/Inj

The 3rd column (Inj Adj should be 1.000. Lower it to .950 and try that. I ahd to drop mine way further
though before the examiner saw a reading he was happy with.

It resets every time the ignition is turned off so you can\'t set this before the test and then change
it back unfortunately.

Don\'t drive it with a lowered setting as you\'ll almost certainly risk running lean.

Test criterier
NON CATALYST (METERED) MOT GAS TEST\'.
t only need to pass the idle test below 3.5% no lambda
and no fast idle test..this is true up to 95 for import vehicles.if its a uk car need lower values after 92

also after speaking to Pip at wgt he suggested i lower my pims settings on the commander to try and get past emmisions.

none of the above worked as the car had not been mapped, after taking it to WGT and getting it mapped, pip took it to be mot\'d and it passed.

just remember never to drive after altering these settings, and make sure when you tak eit you give it some and dont leave it standing for too long before the mot guys get round to testing it.

hope that helps

Eddie thanks for the info mate!!!

what would be the lowest setting on the inj adj that you could go to/or did you go to...
i dont want to be it far too lean!

it also mentions the PIMS settings..what would be the lowest you could go to get through there be....,and do they reset to there normal map along with the inj adj after you turn the car off and start up again?

our MOT differ over here in N.Ireland as they have dedicated MOT centres and have a stricter test than what they do in mainland UK.bit of a balls to be honest!although ours is like a drive through and and the test emmisions at the beginning of it,so hopefully i can adjust the settings just before i go in .

Well I just kept lowering both and when the car started to idle badly i stopped, funny though as when it started to idle badly i got a much lower reading, but as it was fluctuating the mot guy said it had to be a steady idle for him to pass it, i just press the fecking print button when it goes below the maximum :) he was a jobs worth to be honest.

Sorry for the thread resurrection! If you were to change the PIM settings on the commander before the MOT test, would the engine be ok being driven in and out of the MOT test centre, etc whilst the whole MOT test is being done?
Or is it only safe to lower the PIM values when the car is stationary during the emissions test i.e. just idling without the car being moved around in 1st gear?
I\'ve got a feeling the garage might be a bit funny if I try to change the settings during the MOT!
