hey, just a quicky,my fc never seems to come up on tempreture. It hasen\'t yet come above quater of a gauge.Just wondering if the thermostat is opening early and not letting the engine acumalate a decent tempreture?
thanks Adam:xconfused
quarter of the guage is about right. Mines only ever gone up to half in traffic
my gauge raises to bang on halfway everytime, i suppose its not too bad as long as its not overheating.
you could always remove it and drop it into hot water to test it?
Richard
might be worth checking the whole cluster out if theres so many probs in there?
should be about half way and never move, the gauge isnt linear, it will read half way when the water temp is between about 70 and 110 degrees. like and FD, when it moves your car has already overheated.
If its running cool, you fuel economy will also be effected as the ecu reads it and thinks its on cold start. Its easy to change the stat, 3 bolts, well worth the £20 to change it.
^^^^
this is true - once it moves - its usually toooo late :( - althought mine has moved a few times - but i have just let it cool down and carried on - infact i drove back from santa pod with a bust rad one year - but keeping the car around the 60 mph mark and it was fine
the cab gauge moves sometimes - but thats when you are pushing it into the 3 figures :D
i had a after market gauge in mine - and you could see that move all over the place and the stock one just didnt move
hi,yeh i was just wondering if the guy that had the car before me had installed racing stat or something because i know they open alot earlier to keep everything cool.
Also ive just ordered a 2nd hand cluster off some guy on ebay so ill see if that makes any difference.
Pretty much all of the TII\'s and I would imagine EGI\'s go to halfway, never seen one above or below. I would look at the thermostat for sure as stated by Antnicuk it will affect economy and performance if its running to cool. believe it or not but too cool is not good, not only will you not get good heat inside the car but if its still running too rich thinking its not reached opt temp then you will just be fouling the plugs all the time and might induce poor starting because of it.
thanks guys, yeah ive ordered a brand new stat from mr mazda and thought it was a great exscuse to change the cooling pipes for some nice shiny ones.
Was also thinking of installing an aftermarket temp gauge, can i still use the exsiting sender and lines to the new pod? sorry to be a pain lol, thanks
sure you can but most opt for a new sender unit along with the gauge. You can put this sender in the top hose in a suitable adapter. plenty on ebay.
i found this on ebay loooks the like it should do the job

yeah that should do it - get the 38mm adaptor for it ( im sure thats the ID of the top hose )
okay thanks chap, ive seen your guide on the net on how to instal a gauge.Im glad people like you take the time to explain stuff to rotary virgins! thanks
ah yes - i did that ages ago :D
its arkward when you are working on the car to remember to take pics
i was gonna do a write up for changing the rear pads - but only managed to take 1 pic - so its a tad pointless !! LOL
hey, have you gop
t this prob sorted now?
been doing some research n got me thinking that it might be the rad cap not holding pressure??
no not at all, both caps are quite new and the coolant stays at a steady level so i dont think its using any?? .also i was reading a general rx7 running guide andit said the earlyer fc\'s should run at a quater gauge temp and the later ones run at half gauge temp?? lol i ve been pretty anal about letting the temp come up before i give it anything past 3000rpm.Plus my work is only 5 minutes away and the poor thing has hardly enought time to warm up for me to give it the routine trip to the redline every trip.so im insuring my hilux at the end of the week so that can take brunt of the cold weather starts.,Im off to mr mazda today to pick up my thermostat and coolant.also have my new tempreture gauge on order as ive heard the standard ones are a pile of dog eggs.
Thanks mate
