Title: Sensor in Secondary Fuel Rail ???
Post by: shaunwil on January 17, 2009, 04:04:41 PM
I\'m trial fitting the rail I\'m making myself and I\'ve took the original kit out only to find a sensor in the secondary rail.

Am I right in thinking its a Fuel temp sensor ?? Do I need to modify the rail to make possible to install the sensor ?

Just haven\'t seen it on the installs when the KGparts fuel rails.

Anybody know what thread it is ??

Cheers

Shaun

Its the fuel temp sensor. If you remove it you might need to change the correction settings in the vs fuel temp boxs in your power fc to 1.00

Cheers, I\'ll get the rail machined to have it still in place :D

I wouldn\'t bother Shaun. I\'ve run without mine for the last 3 years or so without any problems. Leave the sender plugged in or cut it out and replace with a resistor or you\'ll end up with the check engine light on (assuming you\'re running a Power FC).

Cheers,

Its hard to decide. Reading on rx7club they seem to say that there is a up to 7% correction with the temp sensor used. I think I\'m going to ring pip as he will be tuning it, hopefully to a level I\'m after !

Been very busy with the fuel setup.

The Secondary Rail is big enough for the sensor, but I would have to check in my model that it doesn\'t knacker fuel flow and choke the system.

Still need to get the mounting brackets cut out and formed and then get them and the rails anodised. Question is what colour. Thinking Red or Blue but can\'t decide !

hey shaun. that was what i was saying. there is a comp for fuel temp s some other stuff. either put it in or change the values to 1.00 which will stop any comp for fuel temp.. or go with pip. he gets my vote lol

True, suppose pip would tune to have that extra fuel in the map for safety if it wasn\'t installed.

I\'ll have to try and get him on the phone :Giggle

Emailed pip and he says that he would want it installed !! Just need to do a few mods !

ran for years without it installed and adjusted the fuel temp corrections to 1.00 as per Gillard28s instructions.
You be the first in the UK Shaun that I know of to machine the rail to post install the temp Sensor, the only worry I would have it is interupting the fuel flow as the KG parts rail wasnt designed to have the sensor where as the OEM one is.

i dont use one in my kg rail.. and everything is ok!

Same here fitted a kgparts fuel rail with no sensor and adjusted fuel , ran for a long time like this.

I\'m going to draw it up in the model. The CJR system does have a position for the sensor.

The Rail is about 40mm diameter so there is plenty of meat in it. I do agree its the sensor affecting flow that made me think about it but I should be able to have a look at how it will be affected in my CAD model. Its my own design for the rail :D

Might look at making an inline adaptor that has the sensor built into it.

Cheers Guys as always :D

Going to make an inline adapter for the fuel temp sensor but finally got my rails and brackets anodised and coloured and fit them in with all the lines.

Hope you like :D Just also wondering what psi I should test the system at. Is 70psi high enough when looking for leaks ?

Just thought I\'d update with some photos :

From my head mainly :Giggle

They are my own design machined by another member on here ! Need to check everything properley because its a new design.

Upto now spent about £750 with the Injectors, FPR and FJO injector driver included. If it was a kit it would end up cheaper because of multiple of scale with suppliers.

That does look rather nice!

Just to add, most sensors run 1/8th NPT thread

Good effort!!  If you need someone to supply you with Goodridge, get in touch :)

Can you not run the sensor in the FPR - those things usually have spare positions for fitting fuel pressure gauges and what not ?

Just a thought to save you machining the rail or doing extra work.

that is a very good point and i can see no reason why he carnt??

I did consider it but for me to machine a block of aluminium isn\'t a big job. Probably just machine it out of 3/4in alloy bar !

When I got home tonight I tried to prime the system without the plenum on. Can\'t really see too well but the FPR went to 42psi on open to atmosphere. Had a feel round and all is feeling ok.

One question, Once you turn the ignition off should the fuel system hold its pressure. If it doesn\'t is that a sign of a leak ?? Trying to play it safe.

If I made this a kit there would be a few changes to try and improve the fitting of the kit. On a plus side it would be easy to make a 4x1600 kit with -8 lines off this design.

Plus on the FPR sensor side not too keen on if it will look a bit heath robinson when on the front of the plenum, the sensor looks quite naff, would rather have it mounted on the fire wall.

oops, plus the sensor looks like its an M12 thread. Need to get some m12 nuts to check though !

Top job mate, one Q is what size hose and AN fittings did you use, looking to do that on mine, Also where you bought it from.

Its all -6AN lines.

I was thinking about doing something similar to this, but I\'m keeping the 8mm lines.

Basically I was just going to hack apart the seconday rail, leaving the sensor bit in the middle and then welding (when I say I someone else would do this bit) the two end bits on.

The reason I was thinking of doing this is because even though I\'ve got a rotary art seconday fuel rail (which is fricken maaaahooosive), the standard fuel rail seems to have the sensor offset. I didn\'t want to tap the new fuel rail to add the sensor in the middle of the rail and mess up the flow.

Here\'s my version in case anyone is interested.

Just cut the ends off the old secondary rail and got some new fittings welded on by a company in Farnham.

Not tried it yet, but think it should work.

Was thinking of placing it in between the new secondary rail and the FPR

Cool, I\'m going to be buying some 1inx2in bar and machine a sensor block.

Ordered my material and Drills and Taps. Done a quick model of setup :

Will be a -6AN inline jobbie.
